I've seen two to three posts in the last two or three weeks saying the folks at dsmlink sent out an email notifying them that the long-promised 1G version will be out soon. I'm very interested in this- does anybody have any further info on when it's coming out, general functionality, etc? I was about to buy an eprom burner and probably a keydiver chip as a good base to start with, and go the rom tuning route, but if Dsmlink for 1g's has all of the same features as the 2G version it would be an attractive alternative to testing my ability to interpret and modify hex code in the context of software vital to the survival of my engine.

That looks REALLY good (very good and useful features). No need for E-PROM and beats the cost of datalogger + S-AFC (plus does much more) or even DSMlink. Good find. I might give it a try and see what it can do. I definitely like the overlaying feature too... :)

Thanks for the link, I'd never heard of Ecu+ before now. At 429 dollars it looks like a great alternative to the SAFC. If you consider the cost of an EPROM ecu (as low as 100 but usually more like 150) if you don't have one, that's more than three-hundred fifty dollars cheaper than dsmlink, for somebody who wants fuel and timing control. I don't know if the Ecu+ could be considered a dsmlink replacement, as it doesn't seem to have control over idle rpm, rev limit control/2 step or three step, nitrous controls, antilag system, the nifty little things dsmlink does. It looks like it's worlds better than the SAFC+Datalogger, though, and if you have an eprom ecu, a Keydiver chip would give you most of the rest of the features.

I see that it also works on the Evo 8- I'll have to go check their boards, I'll bet Pathak is already bashing it, haha.

Well its quite the opposite of DSMlink, as the DSMlink reprograms your ECU(gives it whole new instructions). This is more of a pigggyback device like a safc, with a built in logger, but also changes the timing curve by adjusting the CAS sensor. With DSMlink you are actually changing the hexcode in the ECU so you don't have the downfall of large amounts of timing advance with large injectors like a piggyback device has. No doubt that this is a very promising device, but personally I would take a 1g DSMlink over it. The things I have seen about the ECU+ over DSMlink is that you can log a couple extra inputs for logging, no need for EEPROM, and works with palm and laptop.

I was wondering if someone with some more knowledge could talk about the effects of changing timing by modifying the CAS sensor input. We already know the downfalls of changing the MAS sensor inputs through the safc, but has anyone ever tried to mess with timing before???

Extra inputs for logging? DSMLink is able to log everything the ecu sees. It also is able to free up 4 or 5 sensors not needed, and use those as inputs for logging things like boost, EGT, wideband O2, or whatever you want. Depending on the sensor you are trying to log, it might require a little code work, but there are always some DSMLink users that are writing code for new/different aftermarket sensors. Looks like the ECU+ has 3 extra.

DSMLink will work on a laptop and Palm, too.

i just wish the guys at dsmlink had some more information about if/when its coming out for the 1g, seems to me like its gonna hurt thier sales if the 1g guys end up getting something else.

well id like to know its even gonna come out. because right now all anyone can say is it MIGHT come out

id rather buy a quality product than something sub par, but it sucks not knowing if the good product is even going to be there when im ready for it

Has anyone waiting for the 1G DSMLink actually tried contacting the people who make DSMLink?

This product is made by DSMers. That being said do you really think they would leave the 1G guys and girls in the dark? Not likely, it will come out. I will look on the DSMLink BB and see if there is anything new.

I shot Tom (ECU-Plus) a note on other "nice to haves" such as some of the more popular EPROM mods.. and the ability to ignore certain types of knock. He said he's working on many of them including the ability to log knock sum.

As I'm already running a JeffO Stg3 chip + TMO Datalogger so have most of the above already.. though the ability to modify timing would be nice.

Back on topic of the 1G DSMLink.. I'd assume (from what I've heard from other ECU tuners) that the 1G EPROM doesn't hold much extra storage for saving your settings.. so wonder if the 1G DSM-Link will utilize an external (to the ECU) emulator?

Any hints yet as to cost?
