Was wondering If anyone had personal Experiance With the
FP Big 28 Turbo.
http://store.forcedperformance.net/....mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=FP&Product_Code=705329-0002&Category_Code=DSM-Turbo

Says it pulled their full weight 99 gsx to High 11's @ 21psi and hits full boost at 3K rpm.. All I want is High 12s
And Mid 12 would be perfect. Retaining stock look with stock side mount
etc... and Streetable boost/spool...
From some research its good for 350AWHP Which is actually my long term goal...

Was wondering if anyone had any experiance with it etc...
Not doughting FP. I wouldnt question their products even once...

Or is it a waste of time and should I not bother looking at it....?

Thanks!

I happen to be running the FP BigT28. I love the turbo, it spools much quicker than a evo16g would, however you are looking at a smaller compressor housing, but the nice part about it is it looks every bit like a t25, no one ever notices it. I think if you plan on running 350hp you will most likely be pushing the turbo to the max. I am currently running 20lbs of boost, it pulls hard, I get full boost at about 3k. Its built very well, if you want to get 350hp out of it I would suggest getting it ported. It is an extremely nice direct bolt on. I used to run it on my stock side mount at 20lbs, pulled hard all day long, I currently have upgraded to a front mount since then. I've had it for about a year now, no signs of shaftplay or anything.

I have 650injectors, 190 wally, dsmlink with a full tune, 3inch exhaust, all I can say is at the track, I have no traction, however I trapped as high as my buddies AWD that ran 12's, and on the Highway I have pulled another FWD that runs high 13's by 2 or 3 car lengths. Its a good turbo, worth the money. Just make sure you get supporting mods.

Alot of people will tell you to run a 16g, which is fine by all means, but this one is direct replacement, I installed the turbo with the help from a buddy in less than 3 hours.

I also run the FP Big T-28 turbo.

It is an extremely fast spooling turbo that'll kick ya in the nuts.

For comparison:

The Evo 3 16g flows 550 cfm (cubic feet per minute).

The FP Big T-28 flows 530 cfm.

The Big 16g flows around 505 cfm.

You'll almost get the performance of the Evo 3. You won't ever have to worry about boost creep...ever, which is a notorious problem with the Evo 3. You can take the T-28 turbo to around 21-22 psi and be good. Having full spool at just about 3000 RPM and takling 350 wheel horsepower is an awesome thing.

Definitely get their exhaust turbine housing port job, along with the 17 psi actuator. You could go without it if you want an MBC to do all the work.

The turbo is loud and will definitely get you attention from others.

Jordan (MacGSX here on DSM Talk) sent me a DSM Link estimated horsepower of 404 at the wheels with a FMIC, 3" exhaust, and 264 cams. Having 400 horsepower spooling at 3000 RPM is almost unbeatable with this turbo. It's bad ass.

You will honestly get near-T25-spool-time with the T-28. It is really fast.

HOT97,

lol you beat me to the flow specs! Yea, def get the 17psi actuator and the port job, - I regreat not getting the port job, but then again I don't need anymore power, I already spin tires 1st and 2nd gear down the track. TIME FOR Limited Slip!

The 17psi actuator isn't really necessary as an MBC can do all the work...I have it because it is slightly adjustable and allows me to actually run 15 just by using the actuator rod, and not an MBC. I'll turn it up when I install my mods and tune it this weekend.

Don't know if I'll spin with it on the car...but we'll see! :p

AWD... most likely probably not, but you will build a lot of boost at the line. WHHHHHOOOOOOOSHHHH AWD launches are extremely fun.

Awsome guys thank you so much. I was expecting flames and actually got alot of Very Very valuable Information and help. Thank you!

Yeah, my goal is 350whp however 300-325 is plenty for me. No question about that. Im happy with the stock power. lol But ofcourse want a lil more.

I'll def get the Port Job if I do buy the turbo.
Im not sure if I want a front mount becuase I loose my crash bar, Foglights etc.... and the whole "Stock" look. lol
And I like the side mount. Kinda makes it a lil sleeper. Well, Less noticable than a huge fmic.

Also, Along with the full supporting mods I planned on getting,
272/272 cams, Aftermarket Intake Manifold, FP turbo mani....
and a few other things. I now have no question if I'll hit 300awhp. which is what I really want. the 350 is the "dream goal" lol....

Do you guya have any videos of your cars? If not, Why not!!!!? lol

Obviously everyone knows that the evo316g has boost creep problems. Someone mentioned that the t28 wont get it. Anyone care to explain why the t28 doesnt creep and the 16g does?
Another question, the t25 falls flat on its face once you reach 5000 rpm. The 16g falls at like 6000 rpm, so where does about does the t28 pull hard till? Answers would be greatly appreciated.

Actually depending on what FMIC kit you get you may not lose the crash bar at all. I got the Dejon Powerhouse kit and technically you're suppose to lose the crash bar, but I just cut a opening for the front mount. It was very easy to do. And the crash bar wasn't in two pieces, still one big solid piece, just had to remove some material from the inside for the front mount.

From what I've noticed on mine, the bt28 seems to pull to 6k. I'll have to keep an eye on it next time i drive it. However you say "pull hard" so I would say it dies off around 5800 or so, of course it different for every car. Anyone else wanna chime in?

As for the boost creep deal, I never had mine ported and it's never gotten boost creep or anything. Not sure why, but its different for all cars.

You said you were planning on getting a after-market Intake Manifold (Assuming you mean a SMIM), but keeping the stock side mount IC? I'm not even sure if the stock sidemount will be able to push enough air to make the manifold work as efficiently as it should. (But don't quote me on that)

As for the FMIC, I know the ETS kit will let you keep the fogs on a 2gb. I'm not sure though if you can on the 2ga. But you could always paint the FMIC black and use black couplers and piping. The "mouth" isn't that large to be able to see a WHOLE lot of the FMIC anyways.

Anyone know how much a ported big t28 flows? (Ported by fp)

Man this thread has me jazzed, as I have been sittin on one for a few months now just waiting for $ for all the supporting mods... (come on economic stimulus package!!!)

The way I look at it I am stuck between the E316g and the FP BigT28. This is how I look at it thou if you compare the two.

E316g
545.00 turbo price
125ish install kit
50ish porting out wastegate
plus I'd have to redo my licp to connect to the J-pipe

Add all that up and its about the same for the FP T28 which is a simple bolt on and uses all the factory 2g cooling lines and piping. And no boost creep headaches as well I'm gonna start shopping for the T28 pretty soon.

Got it with the FP 17psi WG. Love that thing to death. Pulls hard. Spools quick. Holds for awhile. Love it. Being in Cali w/Cali plates, it is nice that it does look like the stock turbo.

I mean regardless you'll wanna get something to tune with whether it be a SAFC or DSMlink or etc. Anyone in Cali know if their T28 passes inspections since it looks stock? I've always wondered that because they have such strict auto inspection rules. Out here in Ohio we have nothing... well echeck at most, but my buddy passed somehow without a cat one year... tells you how strict we are in farm country.

Yeah I got the 2ga... I really wanted to keep the crash bar In tact 100% because who knows one day it could save my life.
(I work in Fire&EMS so I kinda see what can happen everyday. lol )

It looks totally stock (as it is the same as the t25 externally) with the exception of a tiny FP logo embossed on the hotside, really looks stock.

^I hear you with the crash bars, I work O.R. in a trauma hospital, and I too see some shit...

The only thing with the t28 is that if you do ever want to go bigger then you will still have to buy the install kit. I was debating between t28/14b/evo3. I ended up getting the install kit and just planning on using a ported 14b. That way when I get everything all setup (IE Fuel, suspension, Tuning), I will be able to slap on a evo3 and it will be more than enough power for me. I have talked to a few people and a properly setup 14b will get you low 13's, even high 12's with a good driver.

I definitley do like the idea of using stock everything with the t28 the only thing that pushes me away is the price. You can pick up a used 16g easy. I rarely find a t28 used for sale. BUt i tell you if the zero boost creep problem is true for that i would buy it just so i dont have to worry about that.
