Gauging interest: custom AN oil pan and turbo oil drain flanges

After reading the SCM61 post by nukefission and checking out the oil pan flange for the oil drain line that he fabricated, I talked to machinist Robbie_Camero about making something similar. Here is what he came up with:

We are talking about the male AN flanges in the foreground of the first picture. The final shape of the flanges will be more rounded on the ends to better match the shape of the gasket. Right now the flanges are for Mitsubishi center sections, but one for Garrett center sections is in the works.

With this route, you would bolt the flanges to the oil pan and the turbo with a heavy dose of RTV to get a good seal. The advantage is that you can then disconnect the oil drain line as many times after that as you want and never have to worry about a leak again. Never mind how freakin' cool the AN line looks ;).

We are considering putting this together as a kit with the AN line and 10 AN swivel fittings if there is any interest. Opinions or comments?

I run a oil SS oil return on my turbo Honda that looks almost like that one in the last pix. I would love to have something like this for my DSM. I had a hole at the flex section on my eclipse, i had to cut it out and replace it with a section of heater hose. I don’t know how long the hose will last.
How much would this kit go for.

Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming. I cant post the price we have in mind, but I can tell you that it will be the same or a little bit cheaper than other lines out there that use the Home Depot style brass fittings.

The Mitsu/Garrett hybrid turbo's (with Garrett center section, like the PTE's) probably will need a flange that bolts up with a 30-45* angled AN male fitting. I believe without that, and the fitting pointing straight down, the SS hose will be rubbing against the front motormount bracket. I guess test fits will prove otherwise, but that's the only issue I see in doing this. The mitsu turbos should have no problem.

If it's no problem with fitment on the Garrett center sections, or you end up making a bolt on angled AN flange, then I'm definitely up for one. I can't say how many times I've removed my turbo in the last year and had to replace that oil pan gasket.

Thanx for the responce. I just made those flanges as prototypes to gauge intrest. I have a vendor who I will be regularly making these flanges for. Once I setup a production run, they should be pretty cheap. I would say compatible to an Earls banjo fitting or something like that in price. Garret flanges will be identical except the holes will be drilled for M8 cap screws in stead of M6 cap screws. As for a kit, details still have to be sorted out on prices for fittings and such.

I am leaving town for a few days and will start production on these once I return mid next week.

Thank you
Rob

Garrett lines will also need to take into account that there are different manifold assemblies out there that place the turbo in different locations. You'd probably want to include a little extra length of the hose and have the users cut to fit the line.

We will be taking install pics soon with both Garret and Mitsu centers so you can get a visual on the fit. I think that 7" will suffice. There appears to be plenty of line to do the job with 6" and its unlikely a custom manifold would make a turbo sit any further than 1" from the stock location so at the moment I thinks its safe to say 7" of line should be plenty.

Does anybody know if there are any differences in Garrett oil drain flanges, or are they all the same? Will a flange for a PTE SCM50 work for a FP30 and a SBR GT-14 and a non-hybrid full Garrett 60-1 turbo?

The Mitsu flanges are done, hopefully once some ss line and AN fittings come in some kits should be ready to go soon.

I'm all in on this IF the price is right.

The hybrids all use the a Garrett center section. So if the flange fits a GT30 it should fit any other GT series turbo or hybrid using a GT cartridge.

But is the oil drain flange on the GT series center sections different from the T3/T4 series center sections? We want to avoid advertising a flange that fits all Garrett turbos only to find out that different styles of Garrett turbos need different oil drain flanges.
