My 1g TSI FWD will go into 4th gear by 20 mph when accellerating lightly in 'econo' mode The trans has no other problems and I don't consider this a problem ether but it does seem to be a very low speed for a car to be going into it's lowest gear. My 1g N/T doesn't see 4th gear until over 30 mph EVER! Not xomplaining of a problem here but am curioUs about it. Any thoughts?

Wasn't compaining about a problem but am curious as to why/how the car can actually see 4th gear at such a low speed --19-20 mpph (speedo is accurate). I actually like it tho because sometimes starting out after a red light I can get into 4th gear before clearing the intersection It has to be in econo mode and super light on the gas to do it. Itt's good for around town gas mileage for those times when I'm taking it easy so I like it but it is unusual for an A/T to be able to get into it's lowest gear at such a low speed. Otherwise the trans operates perfectly.

I haven't owned an automatic yet and I'm pretty happy with it. Auto trannies and I seem to NEVER get along. Actually I've only driven a few cars so maybe I'm just not a good judge of it but the whole shifting in the middle of accelerating unless its floored really bugs me. That and random/sloppy downshifts accompanied by an upshift 2 seconds later. How annoying!

Only problem is I own 2 dsm's and have literally driven 100's of A/T's and have never seem any other car get into its lowest gear at such a low speed. Soooooooo... I posted trying to find out why, is that not ok with you? Now STFU unless you can reply with something half-way intelligent.

btw, IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF ECONOMY MODE. Yes, econ allows upshifts sooner so thanks for enlightening us all (yeah right) BUT 19-20 mph in 4th gear IS NOT normal. Anything more to add on the subject?

Yeah putting it in power mode will take care of that but I'm still curious what is allowing the trans to get into 4th gear at such an abnormally low speed, even for econ mode. Like I said I actually like that it does it for the sake of fuel economy when taking it easy but it is an oddity imo especially since my 1g 2.0 N/T in econ mode can't get into 4th gear until like 30mph. I don't beleive it's a turbo vs N/T thing either. Otherwise there's nothing wrong with the trans (that I can tell) but going into 4th at 19 mph IS a little weird.

How many times do I have to repeat that i DO NOT beleive the situation described is because of econ mode and and a lite foot yet you keep saying that it is. Is your car able to hit 4th at THAT low of a speed?? I really doubt it thus the reason for the thread. If that's too much to understand please move on to something else.

Bluebird I don't think you have a problem with your trans. Something may be slightly out of calibration like the TPS which makes sense to me. The 20 mph doesn't seem super low for an auto for example my truck hits high gear at about 25 which is a 3spd but its an old school tranny.
