Hey Guys,

I am creating an engine removal V.F.A.Q. I'm putting it together as fast as I can. We took 190 pictures, and detailed everything we could. (bolt sizes, individual wire connections, tips at hard spots, how to get to hard to reach things) I'm looking for help to edit the thing.
In other words, After I put it all together I'm going to burn the thing onto a dozen or so CD's. Then I would like to send it to members of DSMtalk.com who are mechanics, experts on parts and procedures under the hood, etc. (Guys who know the mechanical ins and outs of the car) for help and suggestions on how I can make this V.F.A.Q. better.

The whole thing is in Microsoft Word Format. You start out with an index page that is a listing of the major steps of the project. When you click on one of those steps you are brought (hyperlink style) to a document that details the steps. That document has miniature pictures next to each step. Those pictures can be clicked on to pull up very high quality full size shots.
There are many connections and hoses that I do not know the name of... There are probably some time saving procedures you might suggest...and some stupid mistakes we made that you could point out.

I'm looking for volunteers to edit this thing, and then email me the changes you would suggest. The whole thing is probably going to be... at least a couple of hundred megs... So, if you want to help, please send me your mailing address. I'll then send you a burned copy if you appear to be a long standing member of dsmtalk with strong mechanical experience. I would like to send most of the moderators a copy.

Anyway, let me know if you are interested.

My email address is gabriel_nobles@hotmail.com
I'm going to bump this up several times.

Jesus there are alot of pictures to take AFTER the engine is out of the car. I thought I was mostly done when we pulled the thing out of the engine bay. No way. I'll probably end up taking another 150 pictures of just taking the engine apart after it is out of the car. Oh well. I started this.

Damn, that's a lot of pictures. I have a engine-removal vfaq up at http://www.vallotton.com/engineremovala.asp. There's "only" about 100 pictures total though, and it doesn't cover engine dissasembly - just removal and stripping to a longblock.

I'm not going to offer to help you edit it, because I can think of at least 1,000,000 other things I'd rather do. Feel free to plagiarize my site if it'll help, though.

This could potentially be a very nice V-faq. I'd like to see it when it's all done. Be sure to do it nicely. Please do not skimp out. Cause nothing would be worse than having your engine half way out, only not to be able to read the damn vfaq and understand what the next step is :)

Taboo! Thanks man. Email me an address where I can send you a burned CD. By the way, I tried to email you about some of the stuff for sale at your web site, but it said your box was full. Do you have number where I can call you? (or at least another email address)

I just finished the out of the car tear down of the engine. I took about 95 more pictures doing the tear down. I may have about ten more pics that I need to take.

Don't worry 95GSX, I havn't skimped. If I see things that I forgot I'm trying to go back and get those details..adding them in after the fact.

This thing will be the "Engine Removal for Dummies" super guide. =) I hope... If it helps out a bunch of DSMers I'll be happy.

As Taboo has said. Would it also be possible to sqeeze in a JDM swap in there?

For example. While you have instructions for a regular swap. You can have a little note on the side. ***For JDM swaps, be sure to " " ***

I know there are little things you have to do here and there. So I would think that it would help the people who went and bought a JDM engine.

=^.^=

Hmm. I can see how information on a JDM swap would be useful.
If Taboo has a good enough memory on such details, he could add in supplemental notes neseccary to cover a JDM engine removal. But unless someone who knows the in's and outs of it wants provide that info, I don't have any details. Documenting my own engine removal is proving to be a much bigger project than I imagined.

We did a JDM engine swap some three weeks back and another complete engine (and tranny) rebuild last week (we tear down at least one engine a month... :D ). As for the JDM engine, the only difference is in the dual-runner intake manifold (I would not recommend using) and some small components, otherwise everything hooks up just like on the US version.. :)

As of now, I hate image station. I tried to post some pics of the engine removal. Can anyone suggest a good place to post images at that can be linked to?

By the way, I am finished with the removal and the tear down of the engine. The block sits in my garage with nothing on it or in it except the crank. Now for shipping. Then I contine the already ongoing project of turning the 250 plus pictures into a V.F.A.Q.
This could take a couple of weeks. But, I took no shortcuts!!!

I erred on the side of taking stupid, redundant pictures, rather than skimping out. But, I'm sure we'll trim it down to an efficient body of information with enough editing and suggestions.

Sounds like its coming along nicely. I definately hope it works out. Please do make it for dummies, as I have never delt with engine internals, and it could just be a learning experience for me just to read it and learn how it's supposed to be done.

In addition why doesnt someone make a Transmission rebuild FAQ for dummies? I mean we are DSM's here. Most of us sadly know less about trannies than anything. I think it would definately be a HUGE asset to the community.

holy smokes this is going to be a GREAT faq!! good luck to u guys who is doing it specially Sleepr DSM for going through all the trouble. you wont imagine how much you helped the masses of dsmers out there. JDM notes would be great since tons of people are doing that as well. (like..ME! :D )

good luck on it and RAWK ON!

This is so cool, there's already so much helpful information on DSM's, which is partly why I bought one. And now this VFAQ sounds great! By the way, I read the other engine removal vfaq and I thought it was great, we can all learn from mistakes and do these things properly now! If I did that on my own, I would mess everything up. Wish I could help with the new one, but I know next to nothing :( Good work!!!

Its coming along... slowly but surely. I moved this past weekend (Septemeber 28th-30th) God I hate moving. So, between unpacking and work, I'm getting it done as fast as I can. Thanks for the volunteers so far to help edit it.

Heh I can't suggest anything other than my graphic proggy gimp :) if you have any blured picture or any pics at all that are not clear enuff or not bright enuff plz msg me on aim and I'll help. btw. joako.com has an upload dir where u could link to ur pics but I dont know how long they allow them on there :-/ good luck man!!!
