Had some fun with an srt4

I came up behind an srt 4 at a stop light and saw him checking out my evo in his rear view. when the light turned green, he punched it and tried to take off from me. So I had to floor it and slingshot around him. He started to follow me to where i was going so i pulled over to talk to him. That's the first time i saw one of their engines, but he couldn't answer any of my questions since he didn't even know anything about his car.

We decided to go on a back road to do a quick run. We took off and ovbiously i beat him, but not by much. when we let off I only had him by maybe two car lengths.

Does anybody know the specs on the srt 4's because i thought i would have beaten him worse than that. I heard they have something equivelant to the trim of a 16g but he didn't know. he said he was hitting around 14-15 lbs.

I thought i was going to be able to play with him a bit, but I had to stay on it to stay ahead of him.

actually I thought the 03's had the quiafe lsd too. A guy at my work has a 03 and I'm pretty sure he has one....they are quick tho. I've eaten a couple up pretty good but they do sound good.

really?? my bad then. I swore the guy at work said his car had it and I know its a 03 for sure. ok

I was reading an article in SCC about the SRT-4's. The 03's didn't have an LSD, that was one of the biggest gripes about the car, but the 04's do, which was one of the biggest changes of the car. And yeah the turbo is cast one piece with the exhaust manifold, putting out about 15 pounds of boost. One of the coolest things about this motor is that because of it's size (2.4 litres) it has lots of torque down low so it's not affected so much by lag. On the 03's the power was rated at 215, but dyno tests done by SCC measured about 223 at the wheels. Mopar is coming out with 3 aftermarket kits, where stage one was a ECU upgrade, larger injectors, and a 2.5" exhaust, good for 235 hp. Stage 2 got a bigger turbo (TD05H), even bigger injectors, and some new sensors, including a 2.5 bar map sensor to inprove airflow, good for 270 hp. Then stage 3, which isn't street legal, puts in a 3 bar sensor, removes the cat converter. With stage 3, Mopar was quoting around 300hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. It obviously seems to me that these Mopar engineers did their homework when it comes to this car. WTF, I’m pissed that Mitsu didn't consider a LSD on its FWD's. It sucks that all these goodies are now avail to the tuner crowd in stock form when even in 99 our cars were still considered the "Enthusiasts" car even with a shitty FWD. Bullshit, my car should have some traction control, straight up LSD and I'm talking about Limited Slip Diffs.

They do not run 15psi they run 11psi they do spike some but it drop's off quickly to 11psi.

Stage 1 is just the PCM and 577cc Injector's
240hp 260tq

Stage 2 does not come with a bigger turbo it comes with:

STG 2 PCM
682cc Injectors
3 Bar MAP
3 Bar TIP
Upgraded Wastegate Acuator
Turbo Toy's:
*Intercooler Spayer
*High Octane Fuel Switch
*Dial a Boost "DOWN" Switch

Yes with STG 3 the gain's are 300hp 300tq But Mopar has underrated these car's from the beginning you are looking at over 300hp and over 300tq to the wheel's with stg 3.

The stock turbo is a TDO4H-15g ect ect It is said to be similar to the evo 8 turbo just a step down from it, Like comparing a 16g to a 18g is I guess the best comparason.

I got to say congrate's on the kill. I just have to know what is done to your EVO? A friend of mine own's a EVO 8 and me and him ran from a 2nd gear roll and from a dig and from a roll I pulled a car and 1/4 on him all the way till top of 4th he could not come up on me at all. From a dig ofcoarse he took me out of the hole by about a car and a half but by the top of 4th I was a bumber ahead pulling slowely then we shut it down. My mod's are a 3" O2 Housing and a 3" full exhaust (No Cat). His mod's are just and Intake and BOV. So I do not understand if this SRT was running 15psi to redline and you do not have any mod's I do beleive he could have been playing with you!!! Please tell us what mod's you have to better explain your kill. Later

Is your Evo stock? Any numbers on it yet? I've heard of a few stock Evo's hitting low 13's with great drivers, but thats more on the rare side. On AVERAGE, what is a stock Evo looking at? Mid-high 13's around 100 I believe. I'm just curious, I'm going to be setting up a money race between my car and a friend of a friend's bone stock Evo. They think I'm going to get smoked, of course they've never ridden in an SS either. ;)

I've only done free mods. I took the air filter cover off, and took the boost restrictor out of the vaccum line near the stock boost controller sullenoid. I hooked up a boost guage (since it doesn't come with a stock one) and it spiked to 21 psi and it bled to 15 to 16. everything else is completely stock. I'm pretty sure he wasn't playing with me, because after we pulled over to talk we agreed to go down a back road and do a quick run, and if he could have beaten me i'm sure he would have. It could also be a driver thing too, not to braugh, but i'm a pretty descent racer.

I've only had the car for ten days now, and couldn't run it when the track was open the first sunday because i had to work, but the next sunday the track was closed due to rain. I will be racing it the first chance i get. with a good driver the evo will run 13.2 @ 104 stock ( so i've been told by dsm many dsmers), i'd say the same as you about the average to be mid to high 13's check this link out too

if you guys are both a good driver, it should be a good race. just to give you a heads up, i've already taken out a firebird formula, and trans am. tried to mess with a cobra, but from the roll he just pulled like hell from me.

check out buschurracing.com too, they're in the process of building an evo 8 and have the fastest one right now running 11.65 @ 117 mpg

it's weird but the srt 4 does have a few more horses to the wheel than the evo since it is a front wheel drive, so down the highway i would expect an srt 4 to start to run away from an evo. don't the srt 4 run like 13.9 stock? I think they trap the same mph as the evo does too. don't forget the evo weighs like 800 more lbs too.

I will tell ya though, after racing that srt 4 i do look at them different now, i didn't know they were that quick. not a bad turbo car to buy.

I think the evo on a dyno stock for stock vs a srt on a dyno the evo will put more power down to the wheel's, It will be close, But torque is where the srt-4 shine's I think the srt-4 will put more torque down stock for stock. Not sure though. Well I will tell you that I road in my friend's evo and with just the intake and BOV that thing pulled hard in 3rd and 4th 19psi all the way till redline in 3rd and 4th so I don't know why your boost is droping off. I thought to myself dam I am going to lose from a roll too, But that was not the case 2nd gear roll I had him by a car and a 1/4 all the way threw 4th gear he could not keep up. From a dig is what suprised me By 4th I was slowely pulling by him. He is a good driver too!! I just raced at the track this passed weekend and went 13.8 @ 100.88mph with a 2.2 60'. If I can just get the pig to hook up and not wheel hop so bad out of the hole, with a 2.0 60' I know she will go mid 13's or better. I do have a full exhaust on my 04. I agree the SRT is a bad little car and for the money I could not pass it up!!! Nice talking to you Later

the stock bcs is supposed to spike and then drop off. with it untampered with, it will hit 19 pounds and drop to 13. with the restrictor out, it does the same thing, just with higher boost. If your buddy is staying at 19 lbs without a mbc, than he's pretty lucky. he must have a unique evo!!

Traction, traction, traction.... that is something a fwd person will be fighting for forever, that's why i dropped fwd and became an awd man. i hate having to feather the gas a little just to keep the tires from spinning out of control and to keep from torque steering into the person next to you.

good job on the 13.8, impressive. have you tried running with slicks? or is that what you did when you ran that time.

04 SRT's have the stage one already installed from the factory. They have more power than the 03's. The srt computer is designed to put out the same horsepower at any elevation. So no matter where you see one they should have the same hp. There is a girl who calls herself Srtgurl on srtforums and she is in the 12's with a few mods and some good driving.

No slick's, that run was on the stock tires @ 20psi.

I thought that going from AWD to FWD I would hate it but it really does not bother me to much. I guess the LSD in the trans is helping me deal with that.

No they do not have STG 1 from the factory. They do come with bigger injector's (577cc).

I wonder if the intake and bov make it keep that 19 lbs? i'm going to order a kit for 200 bucks that comes with an k&n and a medal intake tube. we'll see if that does anything.

I see that you own a 04 srt and I would think you would know that besides the bigger injectors in your car the computer has been reflashed and you have 235 hp. I work for dodge and this is a fact that all 04 srt's have stage 1 and a lsd.

Yes I do own one and You are wrong they do not come with STG 1 from the factory they come with the injectors and not the PCM. The PCM is different but it is not the STG 1 PCM that is available for the 03's yes the 04's are supposed to have a little bit more HP I know that already. Just stating that they DO NOT come with the mopar STG 1. In fact if you go to dodgeparts.com I believe you will see that they sell a STG 1 kit for the 2004 that is just an upgraded PCM. If you work for Dodge that is cool but try and get your fact's straight. I know what I am talking about I have been researching this car for a long time before I even bought one.

I will say you are right about more HP and the lsd.
