how do i help protect from crankwalk? (7bolt)

just need some suggestions on how to protect against crank walk with my 7 bolt. anything you have to help me would be greatly appreciated

But in all seriousness, you will most likely not have to worry about it. It is a very over exaggerated occurance. But there are some things you can do to help prevent it.

1. Disconnect the clutch switch. (Meaning you can start the car without pushing in the clutch) Less overall force on thrust bearing will mean longer life.

2. Use only a clutch setup that you will absolutely need. If you will only be running a t25 or 14b, there is no reason to get a 2900lb pressure plate. While it may sound like a good idea for the future, the extra force applied upon the bearing is what causes walk to occur. The heavier the pressure plate, the more likely it is to start showing symptoms.

It might walk eventually and if you are that worried about it the only sure fire thing you can do to prevent it from happening short of a 6 bolt swap is to drop the oil pan and replace the thrust bearing once a year. Just don't go throwing some stupid heavy clutch in the thing and you will lessen the likely hood for it to happen. You should also check out rule 7 before a mod hits you with the ban hammer.

QFT. Also, I think the rule of thumb is that if it hasn't walked by 70k miles, it's not going to.

Not sure who sent it but odds are it was to give you a heads up to follow Rule #7. There is a link in my sig to the rules if needed. It is pretty simple to follow once you get used to it. Just try and remember to type as though you were writting an essay for school. Meaning capitalize appropriate things such as the start of sentences and your "I"s. Yes we are serious.

Look into a holset Hx35 or Hx40. That will be able to support your goal. Otherwise, a 50trim or something a little larger should be able to get you close to your goal.

Look into using E85 if you have the chance. Also, look into using Meth injection. Make sure you use some sort of high quality tuning system (Link, Ostrich, AEM EMS, etc). Look into a set of ARP headstuds and a quality head gasket. With that setup, your goal of 400hp is possible.

Thanks, I just want to be able to drive this on the street on a daily basis as well, but you believe that a 50 trim would do me better than the 18g? I just know people with an 18g and a 50 trim for my setup right now, otherwise I'll be looking for a slightly larger turbo.

An HX40 would be a bit overkill but a HX35 would do you great. They are an indestructable turbo, thats why they run them on dodge diesels. Worst case scenario it does blow up rebuild kits are under a hundred bucks, and mostly can be done at home by you. Definately make sure you have an EMS with the ability to control your timing if you will be running that 20psi. You also will need a wideband for monitering AFR's, AEM's wideband is probably the best.
