Well just trying to get some action going in this forum. So how many miles on your 1.8l? I have a 91 with 103,000. I had to do the head gasket and head job at 100,000. Body underneath is really starting to rot  . What do you guys have?

162,000 on my '90 1.8 now. Just tuned it up last week, and she purrs like a kitten. Although I don't drive that much anymore. Gas milage is way better on the bike. (2004 Honda Rebel, last tank-77 m.p.g's):D

I would just like to add....

We may get picked on because the 1.8 is the "runt of the litter", but this engine has been STUPID reliable. It's unbelievable. Besides a timing belt and new valve guide seals, this engine has needed NOTHING except basic maintenance. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I'm expecting at LEAST 250,000 miles out of it, and I'll bet it makes it without any trouble.

In my opinion, the 1.8 kicks ass. So there! :tree:

Hi all I have been following these forums closely for a while now and finally joined. I have a 1.8 in a 94 Talon and have 105K miles on it and it runs like a champ. I too would like to see more action with these motors.

mine was a fockin lemon, my cousin got it at like 59k and had troubles since, then i got it at like 72k and it ran until 87k and it locked up the engine. but it ran without troubles for about 8k or so before it started going out.

I have around 183,000 on mine and the only things I've had to replace are the timing belt and the water pump. For some reason it drinks water and oil, I think the water leak is from the mechanic not putting the water pump on right, but i haven't checked. Don't know about the oil though. Hopeing it will last untill i can save up for a GSX. It should, don't ya think.

Hello, DSM peeps! I am glad to see such a dedicated base of people devoted to these cars. I bought a 93 Eclipse 1.8 with 186k miles on it.....the previous owner had no problems with it besides stuff with the timing belt, and coming from a person who lives in arid New Mexico, that is saying something!

Keepin it real....

99,042 miles
12,000 on the rebuild
got the car with 87,000 on her for $200 with a broken timing belt and bent valves in the head.
After $1000 into the motor, complete brakes, and half shafts she runs like a dream, wouldn't get rid of her for anything.

how did it have bent valves ? our 1.8's are non interference motors , trust me i know its saved me acouple times unlike my 2.0 :D

mine has 115k right now and runs awesome! it has rebiult and shaved head, injen intake, removed cat with a ebay cat in its place, whole exhaust with 2.5in pipeing, crank pulley, advance ignition timming, awaiting on a port and polished throttle body and port match intake, 8.5mm wires and some ngk's. the power it has is pretty nice compared to what it was but since these mods i have done, my factory clutch is starting to slip and not feeling all the pull it should have :( BUT my 1.8 is going to be added to the 1.8's that are turboed here very soon! :D

213,xxx miles. Had it since 60,xxx. Body was like new because it was repainted due to paint getting bad. Still stock engine. But, will need to rebuilt top end soon (valve seals smoke & leak/burn 4 quarts between changes :D). Compression is 150 on all four according to mechanic. So, still probably have about 100,xxx of life left for the bottom end

Here is a pic

Unfortunately, yes, stock 1.8s are slow as poop. Especially with the automatic, which is what I had. Damn reliable daily though...I miss it every day! Replaced it with a 2.0 n/t, in all it's past owner-neglected glory.

92hp at the crank, with 15% drivetrain loss.

Cwlaser had a decent list before he tore his motor down, contact him and he'll tell you how much he loves it. :)
