I want to lower a AWD to the max

For our 1G AWD, the lowest we can go is 2" drop sprint springs, but that still leaves a gab above the tires. I wanna have that slam look, so I wanted to chop a few coils off the sprint springs. Has anyone done this and can PROVE to me that this does damage to the AWD drivetrain?? Cause everyone says that it MIGHT, but that all seems like bullshit and theory.

I would be much more concerned about the clearance than damaging the AWD drivetrain. I have the Sprint springs - and can barely fit one single finger between the top of the front tire and the lip of the fender. If you really want to see how low you can go, coilovers might be a better option - as opposed to permanent ruining a set of good springs. JMHO. :)

cutting springs in general is just a bad idea... i read a post a while ago that convinced me never to do this... maybe someone can back me up... i'm a little foggy...

something about the way it not only lowers it, but changes the amount of weight the spring can handle? or the ratio or something? i don't know, i'm talking out my ass here... i just remember it was something important that made really good sense as far as physics... i'm sure someone who knows what they're talking about will throw in the assist here...

if ground control can lower 3.5" then I'm definetely going for that! cause cutting a spring does totally degrade the ride quality extremely, but a proper lowering spring, still maintains some quality. Where to get this from?

Ground Controls might go down 3.5 inches but that doesn't mean you have enough shock travel to go that low. Anything below a 2 inch drop and your gonna run into the bump stops. You can only lower the car as far as the shock body length will allow you to.

just take the springs out any way you dont need them. just trailer it ti all the shows you want to go to. that would give you that slammed look yo!! just kiddin:D why do you want it that low it will just ruin the whole cars handling.

^^^^^^^ Exactly. You will be as low as you want, BUT...... You will be bottoming out the damper. Basically taking the damper and using it at an extreme level past its range of motion. This will damage the damper and will ultimately need to be replaced. Try contacting the folks here. www.truechoice.com See if they can offer you something affordable. The damper will most likely need to be shortened and revalved for your application if you plan to use an off the shelf damper unit.

I've got the Eibach sportline springs and it is WAY more than i wanted, i should have gotton the proline.
Anyway, the sportline were supposed to be like a 2" drop, but it was definatly more than that. I'm riding on 215/45/17's and if you look at the front from the side it looks like the top of the tire is touching the fender. Also, i've had a 4 wheel alignment and rear camber kit installed and i still have problems with my back tires wearing REALLY bad. And it's just a given that your going to tear up your exhaust and bumper cuz u will hit EVERYTHING.
O, by the way, i checked 12 shops in my area to have a 4 wheel alignment....and only 1 had a ramp that the car could go up without getting stuck halfway, and even then it scraped....

Just something to think about.

JICFLTA2—adjustable lower mounting perch so you car make the car have reasonable travel when slammed.

Pricey, but worth it. You can stick the tire in the wheel well long before bottoming out if that is what you are into.

Well I have a 3" drop and don't have any problems and my car handles great. Just buy a set of real coilovers and tell all these people who have zero actual experience to go take their BS someplace else.

igs wtf is that red hook sticking out of your front bumper?

not necessarily. Yea being slammed is a PITA when going around city roads and all but it has it's handling advantages as well as cars can look incredibly well when dropped correctly and not just cut springs or something.

im running the pro-kit and 17's on my 2g. its barely makes it over stuff like speed bumps. i cant imangine sportlines or coil-overs lowered on mine. i guess mines a short-bus type of special. i seen 2g lowered to the ground. but i havent had any experience with those set-ups. but it can be done. just not my style. hey its your car. do what you want. but low DSM's look nice

Just so you get an idea. This is my talon on ground control 450# front/375# rear and KYB AGX. Perfect height in my opinion. I can run over railroad tracks at full speed and not bottom out, even with the fronts on full soft.

About 2 finger gap in the front. Of course I slammed it when I first got the coilovers, and that lasted about 10 minutes. Why sacrifice performance for looks?

It is pretty low, the key is under my cat.

Is that a 3" drop on the picture in your signature? The reason why I'm asking is that we run 2" drop (Sprint springs) in the front on our 2G - and our car seems to sit MUCH lower than yours :dunno: . When we put the Sprints on the rear (with Iluminas in all four corners), the car was so low that there was just some 1/4" between the top of the rear tire and the inner lip of the fender. We had to raise the rear a bit with Eibach ProKit springs - so we don't rub the rear tires while cornering... That's why I can't see how you can actually drive with 3" drop - unless you have some wheels with bigger than 40 off-set and some narrow low-profile tires... :dunno:

I just raised my car a tad over the weekend. Previously I could barely squeeze a finger between the tire and the fender well, now I have almost two fingers room. It rides SO much better. I think I originally had about 1.5 fingers room, but after the springs settled she dropped quite a bit.

She still handles great but rides really plush. This is a 2G GST on GC coilovers and Koni yellows. The swaybars will be on their way soon :D
