If I pull my EGT probe, will it work again?

I just got my new 2G heat shied today. Before I take out my probe(to drill hole in shield) I want to make sure it will work again when re-installed. I know it sounds dumb, but Ive heard of them not working after the re-install.

There's only one way to find out.

A lot of times they do break, but there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do about it.

As long as I dont let the tip touch anything, I would guess it'll be ok right? I mean, it cant be the 75* temps outside that can kill it, can it?

It's not the tip touching anything, it's bending the wires around where they exit the probe. They get heat cycled so much in the same position, then they get moved around when you mess with them... and sometimes they break. Just be careful wth the wires and hope for the best.

well anything with wires is gonna break if you move the wires around too much, they will just fatigue and break inside... just like when you have a papercilp and bend it back and forth till it just breaks apart... same thing happens to wires.

but, frequent heating and cooling will rearrange the molecular crystalline structure of the metal or somethingl ike that, and causes the metal strands to become more brittle and more susceptible to failure when exposed to physical stress.

soo... in other words, be GENTLE with it :D

So the best thing to do is unhook the probe at the connector(I have the TRE probe) and then just unscrew it making sure that the wire turns with the probe? That way everything stays together.
