Hi All,

I was driving around yesterday, when the car just died, and would not start back up. The 30 A ignition switch fuse (the one in the fuse box in the engine bay) was blown, and putting in a new one blew it right away, too. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

I looked at the wiring diagram (and have checked for loose wires etc.), and it seems like there are many systems that run through this fuse, so I was hoping to maybe get pointed in the right direction before I started pulling fuses. I've checked the archives, and the only real lead I found was the sunroof relay.

Just for reference, I have done the following electrical mods:
New fuel pump/re-wire
New ECU w/ DSMLink (for which you have to cut into the clutch wire)
Boost and EGT gauges

TIA,

I just got done putting my altinator in tonight and I took the car for a drive and it was fine I went to get on the highway and it just died also. i looked around checked some fuses and my ignition was blown also... I replaced it two more times and i had to get it towded home sooo your not the only one with this problem if you figure it out share the wealth....I think I might be overcharging the batterie you might want to check your batteries voltage i think it is supposed to be 13-15

This was the very first real problem I had with my car...While back...I was having my brakes/rotors done, and getting a flush. The mechanic was attempting to drive my car ontop of the lift. When he tried starting it, it just clicked, and nothing happened. I opened up the fuse box, and it was blown. They also said that the battery was corroded, and the connection was a little loose. So, they cleaned it, and tighened the connection, and then I put the fuse in, and wa-la! LIFE! So, clean your battery posts/terminals, tighten the connections, and replace the fuse, and see if that does it.

I wound up pulling the fuse for the sunroof (the one in the drivers footwell), and that seems to have solved the problem. I assume the sunroof relay/motor has gone bad, hopefully I'll find out this weekend.

Thanks for the help.

I had the same problem, If it keeps blowing buy a circuit breaker and connected in the place of the fuse with aligator clips or whatever you can.
I drove like that for a while and then switched back to the fuse. Problem was gone. Weird.?? Anyway the breker will replace the fuse , so wen triggered it will shut the car off . But cleaning the battery as mentioned might help and look for anything that might be grounding your battery like the hood that one member mentioned or cables.
Good luck.

i had to leave my car 20 miles from my house it will jjust keep blowing the ignition switch fuse 30A i dont know what to do. a friend turned it on from the starter but it melted the fuse and the car turned off any suggestions?
