In my quest to figure out what is causing my shitty idle i figured i'd test the mpi relay. My car occasionally dies at lights/coming to a stop and trying to take off from a stop. At the same time my radio resets as if i disconnected the battery. Now from my understanding the ECU controls the mpi relay. I was thinking of cutting the control wire and installing a switch and a connection to straight source voltage. Would this be an effective way of taking the ECU out of the picture and has anyone ever done this? I'm almost positive my ECU is fine since i had it out about 2 weeks ago and it deff. didnt smell and the board didnt look like it had damage. I'm also going to block off the isc and fiav if this doesnt work.

If you do want to try to save it, go to Radio Shack and buy some zero residue electronics cleaner. Obviously disconnect everything and spray liberally. Let dry fully and re-install.talonturbo102 said:

Well the assumption was if they were leaking or even if not, they would be replaced. I certainly wouldn't spray the board down and just leave the old caps.:huh:
I still disagree. It will remove the electrolyte, on the entire board, under components and all. I had leaking caps, replaced them and sprayed the board down. No issues for 4 years.

Agreed but splitting hairs. The assumption was to replace them regardless. Because it IS a ticking timebomb.
We still agree that after removal/replacement of the caps the board should be cleaned. I simply wanted to point out to use a zero residue electronics cleaner than say brake clean, WD40, or soap and water.
With some people on this board, you just never know.
