New Light on gage cluster?

Hey guys, I just got home from a crazy day. Basically I started my 93' GS and she fired fine and ran strong. Then we were going to pick up a friend when I turned the a/c on down the freeway. I was going about 80 on the freeway with the a/c on full blast. Then we ran it a lil more through some lights and turned it off. Not really paying any attention, when we get to his house, and I start it back up, my temp gage was reading past the red mark. PAST it. So I pulled the car off the road, and I pop the hood.

No smoke, no steam, just this baaad hissing sound coming from my radiator overflow cap. We pop the cap off and burn the shit out of our fingers, and here comes a gallon of dirty water GUSHING out of the overflow. The water was steaming and smoking. It gushed out for about a min. Then we walked down to chevron and bought some 50/50 Prestone Coolant. Brought it back and as walking, I could remember checking my overflow tank a ways back when cleaing the engine bay and seeing litterally not a drop, it was cob webs. :p (if that means anything). So we pulled the radiator cap off, started it, and dumped about 1/2 of the prestone in the radiator until it was "full". As my dad was pouring the prestone in, the coolant temp on the gage dropped to below "c". Then raised to a little below 1/2 mark. Perfect right?
Well, we started her again and the temp was fine, we floored it and speed shifted some gears and below 1/2 was the constant temp. Well, worring about the temp gage I didnt see, I had a new light. My mother (owning a tsi awd in the past) said it was my water light. Its bright yellow and has a weird picture. It has been on. So We put about a cups worth more prestone in and it took it, but the light still didnt go off. Its STILL on. Is it a water light? Why is it on? hmm. Any ideas, or comments on this story go ahead, in need. Thanks, JD.

sometimes with more disstressfull coeds disconecting the cable wont do the trick. these codes are there because the problems they read are more imenant than others. instead, find the fuse to your ECU, pull the fuse,(should be a 30 amp and look like a relay) let it out for over 15 sec. then put it back in. this will wipe your drive. if that doenst do it then you have serious problem like, low radiator pressure/temp ratio. this could be caused by pressure leaking somewhere. if you notice your coolant goes down very slowwly but you have no leaks it could be several things. crack block, head gasket, or a coolant gasket elsewhere, if it is the later then it has to be somewhere hot. like near a manifold where the coolant could vaporize

oh you wants comments? OK...

1) when your car's temp is in the red STOP DRIVING
2) don't touch the rad. cap ITS HOT
3) when your fluids are empty REFILL THEM

is it the washer light?

I would take it to a radiator shop and get it checked out. They can pressure test it and all that good stuff. As stated above if it starts to overhead then turn on the heat. A/c makes the fan turn on, but it should be on anyways if its hot.
