Ok, so been having ALOT of issues with my eclipse since I got it (a year ago, but not my first DSM) . Timing keeps slipping and that was the orginal problem with it when I bought it from a local shop. The belt finally slipped today and got the valves so instead of taking a chance a rebuilding the head and having more timing issues with this motor I want to go turbo.

Here is what I have:

1993 Mitsu Eclipse NT 5 speed which is the car it is going into.

I also have a 1991 Eclipse Turbo 5 speed that I was going to build to be my weekend car but is turning into more of a parts car at this point. I have searched alot of threads here and read the vfaqs but they havent exactly wrote up what I am planning here.

My plan is to buy a used turbo motor (the one in my turbo car I believe is blown, guy I bought from said it was but havent taken it out.) Take the ECU out of the 91 Turbo car and use it on my 93 NT. Take the transmisson out of the 91 turbo car and use it on the turbo motor that I am going to get to put into my 93.

Every post I have read is either using the NT motor but adding all the Turbo components or using a turbo motor but still using a NT Transmisson. Mainly what I am needing to know is what do I need to ignore on the process of putting this motor in and what issues am I going to run into if any. I do have the MAF from the turbo car I can use and the FMIC and UCIP and all that good stuff. It all seems very straight-foward but we all know how DSM's can be. The motor will more than likely be ordered from one of those JDM engine import sites, practically ready to drop in. Is there anything I need to make sure of when getting it, I know the basics of not getting a bad motor but I mean one that will be compatible with the transmisson out of my turbo car or anything else that would hinder my progress as little as possible. I also know that I need one from a OBDI not an OBDII but as far as years go for the ECU out of my 91 and the Tranny out of my 91 do I need to find a 91 or can it be a 91-94?

Also the link for the ECU pins for wiring the Knock sensor and MAF isent working so if anyone has that it would be very helpful :)

And to clarify I did read the vaqs write ups and searched here and read some posts here as well but there are alot of broken links and most of the information was helpful but just wanting to cover my tracks here before I get into a big mess that could have been avoided and thats why I am posting, I didnt see another conversion where someone used the whole turbo motor and tranny and did a write up and not just a parts list.

Thanks guys

The only major thing with the JDM and 1G motors, is youll want to find a 6 bolt motor for your 91 tranny, and ecu. Basiclly to be as easy as you want it to be, youll have do swap in nearly all the same year parts for your turbo motor, into your non turbo frame. Mixing the 1GA turbo parts and 1GB turbo and non turbo parts is where your going to get confused.

If it was mine, Id just fix the NT and save your money for a cleaner better start of a project. It all sounds good and easy in your head, but a headache and loss of interest could be your outcome, as it is alot of work. But you could also learn whole heaps once it is finished. Good luck.

There's nothing hard about it and its certainly not a waste of time. These days, depending on where you're located, its damn near impossible to find a turbo car at a decent price that's not near part out or junkyard condition. Where I live its more than impossible. It just doesn't happen. The best deal on a GSX I've found wouldve been roughly a 500mi round trip and it had to be trailored. The price was great and I wouldve done it had I had a trailor at the time. But you know, in the haydays of muscle cars there plenty of people who wanted but couldn't afford a 70 Chevelle SS LS6. So they bought a used Chevelle and built their own. Hell, people still do it. What we're doing is no different. We're simply working with what we have. End rant.
Now, use this ecu pin-out diagram. I used it and its the best one I've found. Good luck and if you need help just ask. You can only use the search button so much on this topic because the info is so old and most of the links are dead. Here's the diagram.

Thank you for the ECU pinout. Im sure it will help out alot.

Yeah it is really hard to even find a 1g here, much less a turbo one or even awd. The local junkyards only have 2 and they both had 1.8 engines and they wanted as much for them as a shell as I paid for my car when I bought it.

I'mgoing to offer you some solid advice since I have done multiple nt-t complete swaps, I'm asuming your car is a 4g6 nt with a 5spd in it, so...
You should be able to swap over the turbo engine only wireing harness, you will have to pull the dash, a/c evaporator, blower motor todo it, but it should plug and play, oryou can wire in the resistor pack, maf and knock sensor.
On the resistor pack wiring you need to find where the power to the injectors all joins cut that out and wire the pack in its location.
You can use the turbo transmission and its stronger as well, but you may have to use the shifter, and shifter cables and you have to change out the clutch pedal assembly as it doesnt have the correct throw on it to properly disengage the turbo clutch.
It isnt to hard just a lil work

Yeah the car its all going into is a 4g63 nt.

Im glad you told me about having to change the clutch assembly because that was one thing I had not thought of. I had thought about changing the wiring harness from the turbo car over as well but I have stolen some wires from it for a friend of mines eclipse. So either way I would have to rewire something be it the wires to the maf and knock or the wires that I stole for his car.
