hey ,

So here is the issue, i have a 92 ESI talon and whenever i first go to start it up, it takes a few cranks ( like sometimes 10 - 15 to start ) , it has no problem cranking at all.. and battery is great for load and volts. NOw once i get it started, let her warm up a bit ( 1 or 2 min ) and im good to go, it runs good and if i say run into the local walmart, I can come back out and start it no problem. ONly when it sits for a bit, like a whole night while sleeping.

Now here is the other thing and thsi is where other guys with this car could be of some help, when i turn the key to the ON postion, I don't hear the fuel pump? is that normal, i Know my other car, i can hear it come on, but i cannot hear it with the talon.

What i was think maybe is that there is no pressur ein the lines after a night of sleeping and i have to keep cranking it to build the pressure up...just a guess..what do u guys think? I really need this fixed asap! lol..thanx and have a good one

I can't hear the fuel pump in mine either, and I don't have any problems with cold starts. I did however have a problem when my coolant temperature sensor was bad. It would run great when warm, but took some cranking in the morning to get it started.

thanx, and would that throw a code u think? I guess pretty much any sensor would throw a code, thanx again appreciate it

Is this a cold start problem? Do you have a service manual to trouble shoot at all?

I would start with checking the coolant/air temperature sensors, disconnected/broken vacuum lines, and see what kind of fuel pressure you're getting.

Also, how do you know your battery is fine?

I had the battery checked, I am a mechanic in the military adn brought home some tools..lol..and no, its not really a cold start problem, it has been +10 and left all night and does not start....maybe a coolant temp sensor as well?? Im not sure..im lost on this one..but thanx for the advice, much appreciated!

At the onsight of my problem with the coolant temperature sensor it didn't throw the CEL right away, but eventually it did. When is the last time you changed your fuel filter? It also wouldn't be a bad idea to pull out the ECU and check for leaking capacitors.

ECu just got replaced, like 3 weeks ago and as for the fuel filter, not sure...and what about spark plugs..being colder now, they could be a problem maybe..

I'm still sticking by the coolant temp sensor. But if you checked that already, the fuel filter o-ring could be lose causing you to lose fuel pressure over a few hours. Your ignition coils could be on their way out too.

& +1 on the leaky caps.

I have chased this pink elephant since I did my 4G63 swap..... What I do is, Turn the key on and wait for the check engine light to go out. If it don't, turn the key off, then back to on, repeat until it goes out. Then she will start right up.(at least it does on my car) I know this is not the cure, but it sure as hell will save your starter until it can be figured out. Please let me know any progress you make on it.:poke:

Edit: It seems to do this to me only on rainy days, not so much on cold days.

Not to run this thread into the ground or anything, but I also have changed fuel filter, swapped coil packs, swapped ecu's, replace plugs. You name it but the only thing I have NOT done is the coolant temp sensor. I guess I will buy a coolant flush kit and get that out of the way at the same time:D

I changed the oil today and change the plugs too...well see ho wit goes tomrrow..thanx and later

Check that coolant temp sensor!

I just got done looking through the service manual and according to it, it will act as if your car is running at normal operating temperature all the time. This means it's not going to inject extra fuel to get the car started which is why it's harder to start. They're pretty cheap and easy to replace. Keep in mind, there are 3 coolent sensors too. 1 goes to the ECU which is the one I've been talking about. 1 goes to your temp guage, and 1 goes to your front fan. Let me know if it works out for you.

Damn, they hit you pretty hard up there. Post back up with the results after you try it. Hope everything goes smoothly.
nope, still have the problem..next step is to go a garage and get the DTC read and find out why the check engine light is on..so no progress yet made..and im getting more and more pissed!

well , Looks like the garage that did the ECU change 3 weks ago screwed up, they put a N/s one in the car..so i think thats my problem:wall:
Those Monsters!! lol. Atleast, its more than likely figured out. When are you going to swap it out for the correct one? How'd you figure out it was the wrong one?
