Quick Q... Which way do the valve springs go?

I should've noted this when disassembling the head. The service manual says something about a colored enamel coating, but I dont see any on the valves. Does it go like this:

Tighter coils towards the bottom:

Tighter coils towards the top:
(I couldnt get this picture to load  My net connection sucks) but imagine the reverse of the picture above.

I imagine tighter coils towards the bottom, but im not sure.

Thanks

No, the tighter coils go down, against the head.

I have a nos original head out in my garage that I used to verify, I will try to get a pic.
Correct

I don't think it would really matter but who knows. If I had put them on without noticing and found this than I would leave it alone personally. If it has a problem it shouldn't break anything, just have problems running correctly.

IT matters alot in all reality. Think of the weight difference between the tight wound and loose wound coils. If you have them upside down it WILL float the valves because of the inertia would be higher. Get them put in right side up or you'll be doing it later.

If anyone wants to argue this matter look into Comp cams Beehive valve springs they're designed with a smaller coils at the retainer for a reason.

You nailed it. My stock EVO8 springs are bee-hived as well.

Ahhhhh Shit. So, I'll be the one who asks.
What will happen if i don't rememdy my fuck-up?

I didn't know they had a specific direction. So I just put them on too.

The car runs, but like poop. I think because of the disconnected (not plugged) vaccum lines, incorrect fuel pressure and n/a ECU.

But bottom line. What will happen?

What WILL happen? Probably nothing.
What COULD happen? Increased likelihood of valve float. You have put the heaviest part of the spring on the end that gets shot up and down thousands of times per minute. Think of it as the opposite of getting Ti retainers.
