AL,
1 Gallon is plenty to get a 400hp A/T car staged, down the quarter and back to the pits. I use around 1/3 gallon per pass but I top it off everytime to try not to overheat the fuel. I might be selling the 1 gallon setup at some point to make way for a 5 gallon trunk mounted setup for street duty.

Engine compartment questions..Do I need the three solenoids on the firewall or just the fuel solenoid? I have no emissions on the car being race car only.
Will it work without that fuel solenoid or will it have problems starting hot?

Also couple minor things in engine compartment. What is that relay on firewall beside the silver fuel injector thing? Is it needed? And beside it is a tiny little cap on firewall.is that needed?
Not from weight point of view so much as just cleaning up things under the hood.

I don't have any of those relays. Removed them all and the a/c shit over there too.

The little cap thingy I believe is to cancel electric noise, and the relay thingy might be for the fuel pump? I don't remmeebr. For what it's worth, I still have all mine, but thier not on the firewall. located a little ways down to clean up the firewall.

One thing I haven't seen yet is removal of the ac compressor bracket it must weigh 6-7lbs all you have to do is cut one little tab off to keep the alignment of the front axle.

My main concern is going to be the seats(going with summit seats), door bars, and rear bumper (front's already gone) they're just excess weight and I already have an 8pt cage so I'm not too worried about a crash.

to keep a civilized look you can strip the padding from the back of the carpet which is most of the weight.

I have never ran an a/c bracket. I just used a few washers that were the same length.

washers would work too I just wanted to keep it the exact same thickness to avoid issues.

So after reading this whole thread I felt guilty for abandoning my project for a couple months and went out and started lightening my car... cough strip cough.. any way I removed the back seat and all the brackets all the plastic from the doors back any random piece of metal that will be of no use and the rear carpet. I plan on removing the sheet metal brace between the strut towers(don't worry I'm going to run a custom tubular strut bar). all factory seat brackets are out including sliders. no spare tire, jack tools no tools no front bumper.

what does the control box mounted behind the drivers door do?

The one behind the passenger seat is the antilock brakes. As I found out AFTER I trashed it.
I also pulled out the dashboard and stripped it back to the plain plastic shell, which I intend to get flocked. I am in the process of ditching all the heating stuff under the dash.

Oh man I just pulled the impact bar out of my door along with the door panel. that door is a feather now. the bar weighs about 15lbs and the panel is about 10lbs I'll get measured weights later on.

here is my current interior. so far the wiring is down to bare essentials (start/run/lights). i have one racing seat so far, and looking to purchase another soon. i have yet to do the hacking of the doors, but so far this is my car. also the fusebox will be in the car, along with a sheetmetal dash setup.

My car is still in the bulimia stage she keeps puking out what she doesn't need and is still fat at this point but I'll get some pics of the progress.

anyone have any updated pics of how their car looks after the diet.

Well I havent touched my DSM in over 3 months since I havent had a single free moment to do so. The n/t doors are gutted awaiting spray paint and some aluminum flashing, the hatch is gutted awaiting the same spray paint and the lexan still needs to be trimmed and mounted. Hopfully Ill be trailering it to my friends shop to get some work done on it there since I can barely walk around the car while its parked in my garage with all the spare dsm parts lying around.

That means Ill hopfully have an update and some new pics soon.

sorry if someone has mentioned this already, but why don't you completely gut the pass. door ( hinges, latch, handle and all thats used to shut the door) and just weld the door shut, i mean you aren't planning on having a passenger are you?, or even do it to both sides and net the driver side window?:wall:
