I need a Greddy BOV to fit my intercooler piping flanged for greddy. I would like to buy a type-s. How can I tell by looking at pictures if it is a true type-s or a knockoff? If i cant tell by pictures what type of paperwork can i request to show that a BOV is not a knock off?

If It is purple and It has the real greddy sticker on top its usually real. Most fake ones come in differenct colors and have no sticker up top.

The biggest thing to look at is price. If it is selling for 30 bucks its fake. If its selling for 100 to 200 its usually real.

So the blue top is fake and the purple top is real? What about used ones going for 80? probably real or fake? Do you know of a thread that has a writeup on the fake ones i cant find one. How bad is a fake one going to fail if i end up getting screwed?

The fake ones have proven to work fine. Do some research and you will figure that out. Im currently running a fake one and it works fine (and has for over a year). I'm not saying that ALL purple ones are real but ALL real ones are purple and have the sticker on top. If its used going for 80 its most likely real.

I would sooner buy new and know that its the real deal rather then possibly buy a fake one. A BoV is one of the things you dont want to go cheap on. better safe then sorry.

Really, nothing is safe to go cheap on. Everything has a function and when it doesnt work like it should it can cause problems.

I agree EE but isnt the type-s discontinued. I thought you cant buy them new anymore .A link to where i could get one would be great. Or could you direct me twards a diffrent Greddy bov like the Rs or something along those lines. Right now i am running stock boost. In the near future im looking for 17psi. Later down the road i want 25 and probably stop there so which Bov would suite me best?

Take my word for it, it works. The only reason I did it was to save a few bucks. Mine only cost like 30 bucks and I got it in a High performance blue color;) jk. In all seriousness if you are worried about it buy a new one then you wont have to worry.

Well some vendors still carry the older style type S.. If you want to be completly positive its real buy it from a reputable dealer but then agin they are still up there in price even though they have been discontinued.

Well do a search but here is 1 link i found by doing a google search

EDIT Dam i lied...i know my buddy did a search a few days ago and he found a place selling the kits new for $180.... Id check MachV and such...they are still floating around.

Check the thread someone posted..

It's easy to distinguish real type-s from a fake one, the most obvious is the purple cap, but knockoffs also have this. Which leads to what I believe the knockoffs did not replicate from the authentics.... On the real type S flange, "Greddy" is machined on the BOV itself. Another way is to listen to the sound of it, if it has a laser sound after the blow off, thats most likely a real type S.
Also the real Type-S adjustment screw if I can recall has a provision for allen wrench to adjust, where knockoff does not.

Both work all the same, and knockoffs also work up 20+ lbs from what people have said, both have problems, being the diaphram inside, which tends to wear out and leak, with the knockoff more prone to it, but the real one also prone to it.

Knockoffs seem to work just fine hell even Dejon sells them and they slap there name on it and charge more. They only thing that can go bad on a knockoff is maybe the diaphram but you could by the real replacement from Greddy and still come out cheaper. Then you will have the same exact quality as the $200 and piece of mind if your worried.
