ok this guy bought this new redline in town, he has been talking mad crap about my car. my friend told me that guy said it would run a 12 sec 1/4 mile! yeah right i said. so about 30 min. ago i saw him at the convienance store. he came in and i said "i heard your car was fast". he is like "yeah its quick". so i tell him if he is interested in a race i had one for him. he tells me he would race anyone for pinks!!!! i was like wtf. so i called my friend with a 94 stealth tt and tell him this guy would race for pinks. he hauls ass up to the store with his rfl blasting and the tires squeeling. so the guy with the redline said it had a turbo. we started laughing at him and told him he doesnt know what he is in for. so i got a boost controller from my friend and hook it up real quick and went for a cruse. man i whiped his ass by 2-3 car links. hahaha whose laughing now.
 
The Ion Redline has a supercharger and is the same basic car as the new Cobalt SS. They are not that fast, stock for stock an SRT4 is faster.

However..the ECotec 4 in them has factory support and can make over 1000 HP in full race trim so most all other 4 cylinders days are numbered at the full race level.

hell no he was like, "i was just kidding, i just wanted to see how fast your car was"/ what a ***, talkin all that shit then punkin out like a little baby. i think he confused me with those cavies in town.

so what i was wondering, is if i was all stock would i beat that guy, maybe. i read that the redline puts out 205 horses and when my car was stock it put out the same but his is standard and mine is an auto. who knows. the only reason i used a boost controller is cuz i wanted to smash that idiot

Wow. So beyond irrelevant it's not even funny. The fact that David Buschur and Brent Rau push over 1000HP has absolutely nothing to do with your every day DSM, or what can be done with them. It takes more money than you or I will ever be able to spend on an automobile and countless man-hours of tuning and repairs to build such a beast.
The same goes for your mythical 1000HP Ecotecs.

yeah, especially here in my town, these people can barely afford to put gas in thier cars let alone put thousands of dollars worth of bolt ons. my eclipse and my friends stealth are i think the fastest cars in town, besides those guys with drag cars, but they arent streat leagl
 
It'd probably be a pretty good race from a roll if your still on the stock T-25, but at top end those cars still pull pretty well. From a dig, he will probably pull you a little out of the whole just because your an auto.. Just switch over to the 14b or 16G and smoke him.

yeah i would like to get a new turbo but the finances dont alow it right now. besides i already beat him so i am just building my car for me. and those idiots that think cuz they have a huge fart canister and a 10 ft. wing they are fast.

Ummm mythical??? You HAVE NO CLUE, get up to date in the real world. GM back in 2002 was selling 1000 HP racer Ecotecs.

You misunderstood my use of the word "mythical". In this context I mean that there are no 1000HP Ecotecs on the street, not that they don't exist altogether.
The point is this: just because a racecar can be built out of a street car, does not mean that street car *is* a racecar.
As far as Ecotec vs 4G63 goes: The fact that it took 30 years for another 4 cylinder powerplant to surpass the 4G63 says a whole lot about the 4G63, doesn't it?

Where did I ever equate a race Ecotec with a street one? WTF are you talking about??? Did you even read my original post??


My point was and is the Ecotec is going to be the dominant 4 cylinder in drag racing. GM is committed to it, with their factory backing you'll see 1500 HP ones in the near future.

yet it holds true that if it can hold that much power then a streetcar CAN be built from a racecar

I agree with you on most things but not on this. You are comparing a factory sponsored and heavily invested in car to the 4G63 that's not. The fact that Shepherd (a barely sponsored solo man act) is trapping right there with this heavily invested and fully backed motor is testament to the 4G63. If only Mitsu. can back an EVO-8 motor and shove it into some tin-can, we would see where the little ECOTECS would do about it. ;)
 
Yea there is a cocky mother fucker around here with a Redline and I figured I would smoke him with my stock GSX. So after a bunch of shit talking from him I said fuck it, lets line 'em up.

I didn't launch it very hard since I'm on a stock clutch, I slipped it out real fast at about 4,500 and and slammed it into 2nd at 6,500. By the time I get to throw it into 3rd at 6,500 again he is right next to me and pulling pretty good. At the top of third I left off and he was about 1/2 a car in front of me.

Granted, this is the first manual car I have ever drove/owned and I havn't owned it very long, so I'm not the best at shifting yet. I wonder if I would have smoked him if I could shift alot better, and of course I had launched at a higher RPM that would have made a difference.

Either way, the kid is still a cocky *** driving around what daddy bought for him. So I just told him this after the race.

"Hey, what did you, I mean, your dad pay for that thing."
-"Little over $22,000"
"Oh really, well this is 15 years old, cost me roughly $4,000, and you barely beat me when I can't shift for shit. How does that make you fee?"
-No response from him
"Think about it, if that extra $18,000 your dumbass spent on that car was put into something like this, you'd be running 8-9's all day long."

Then I just drove off laughing and havn't heard from him yet.

Honestly, your car cost almost the same if not more than his when brand new. You really didn't sound intelligent in that encounter. Stock for stock his car is quicker. There's no argument about that. Modify your car and hand him his ass next time.

That is the thing though, it isn't brand new anymore, that was 15 years ago. Which is why it is wise to pick one of these awesome cars up now since they are very cheap for what you get.
