I've noticed that my 1993 DSM center air spoiler was misaligned and had some water inside of it, and I tried to remove it to see if it had something wrong. So I tried to pull it off according to the service manual by removing the following parts first:

1) Rear wiper arm and grommet
2) Center aero brake light
3) Liftgate trim

After that, I tried to pull it off but the left side refuses to move!! It appears to be stuck or glued in some way I couldn't remove it completely to see inside. The previous owner did some s&*t (sorry) and I could see that some of the inner tapping screw clips are broken/loose with some rust around them.

But my doubt here is: Do I need to remove the rear wiper motor assembly in order to remove the center air spoiler?? Or do I have to pull it even harder? :p I want to get it off to clean all rusty spots and replace the missing/broken tapping screws/clips. Pictures of the spoiler's inner side are welcome, if possible :)

Another doubt: I could see that it has some sponge inside... The spoiler is supposed to have sponge inside of it?? Or only tapping screws and clips, and nothing else??

Thanks for reading,
Roger.

Take the plastic trim piece off of the inside and disconnect the two screws that you can get to from there. then you should be able to remove it by pulling towards the rear of the car. That is how I just got mine off.

Let me see if I got it: So I do not need to remove the wiper motor in order to remove the air spoiler?? Is this correct?

And where is this plastic trim piece located?? I can only access the center trims (2) that are located right behind the brake light. And the brake light hole is small... Mine is a 1993 Eclipse model, maybe your spoiler is different. In the service manual they don't say to remove any plastic trim from inside and those screws wold be quite tricky to remove because you have almost no space to remove them... :(

The plastic trim is the long plastic panel that sit's under the lid inside the trunk. It just pops right off with a bit of force. The make sure all the bolts are removed from the spoiler. Take a pic for us....

Ah, ok now I know which part are you talking about. Yes, I've removed the plastic panel aswell to be able to remove the liftgate striker. The wiper motor is located inside of it at the left side. But I'm still not sure about the location of these two bolts you're reffering to. Are they the ones that holds the liftgate striker? Because I've removed them togheter with the striker aswell.

I'm at work right now and will take some pictures later to show the parts I've removed and see if there's something else holding the spoiler.

And do you remember if you had to take off the wiper motor? The service manual does not reffer to it in the spoiler removal section, but I'm not sure about that...

I've never removed wiper motor, arm, liftgate striker, etc. I just remove the trim panel, 2 10mm head bolts, pop the wiper arm grommet out of the wing. Then I just pull the wing toward the rear of the car about 1-1.5" to get it off its clips, and lift it off while guiding the wiper blade through the opening. Also, you'll have to unplug the connector for the center mounted stop lamp.
