I figured since nobody else has done a review on this turbo, I will...

First a little about the turbo. Its actually the eliminator turbo from TC.com that has been machined by slowboy racing. SBR ports the exhaust side of the turbo and upgrades the WG flapper to a 34mm. If your not familiar with the eliminator turbos, its a mitsubishi center cartrige (direct bolton :D ), tdo5 turbine, 20g compressor, and a modified t3 Airresearch compressor housing (no need for a j pipe). I was a little disappointed with the compressor side of the turbo. It was bigger than the compressor housing from the t25, but not by as much as I was expecting.

Install was easy. No different than installing any other turbo except you dont need the J pipe, which cuts down on cost. You do need to file the holes on the oil return line closer together though, just like when you install any other mitsubishi turbo onto a 2G. I also ported the exhaust manifold to 7cm and installed a ported o2 sensor housing. I used the RRE oil feed line, which is a very nice piece. Install took about 5 hours including running to the hardware store a few times. To cut down on time I didnt drain the coolant from the radiator, I just clamped the two hoses with vise grips. Worked very nicely.

I love how the turbo performs. My car pulls all the way through redline now. WAY more top end power. I still need injectors and DSM link (both are on the way). Boost comes on strong and fast. Lag is WAY overrated. Not much laggier than the t25, but there is more power at lower boost levels. I am experiencing boost creep though. I think I need to gut the o2 sensor housing a little more to get rid of it. Boost holds at about 15psi then creeps up to 19psi by 7000rpms. Once I install the injectors and DSM link Im going to be running 19 psi all day... the car seems very happy there.

BTW... Lets keep this thread about the 2g 20g and NOT other turbos. I dont want this thread to turn into a "which turbo is better" discussion. I know a few other drivers on this forum have this turbo and Im curious what they think of it.

I have just received my 2G20G (tdo6h) and am waiting till I get my FMIC (GReddy), Injector (650), FP (250 LP), and 3" o2 eli turboback (VRS) from slowboy. All else is already in the car and ready to run. I will also be porting my manifold aswell.

Do you have a write up for the install. I will be doing all of this myself (maybe getting a local DSMer to help) and was wondering if there are anythings I should look for or have before I get started.

You said you had to run to the store for some things? What were the things that were needed?

I am just wondering what all was needed to get this thing put on and running. I e-mailed Mike and asked for a list of tools, gaskets, nuts, bolts, and whatnot to get this thing going.

The install went very smooth.

What I used during the install:
flare wrenches (assorted sizes)
vice grips
breaker bar
pb blaster
new o2 sensor housing to turbo bolts (mine were siezed)
new exhaust manifold to turbo bolt (to replace the stud)
new gaskets (I only replaced the oil return line gasket)
rubber hose (to replace the lower coolant feed line)
die grinder w/ carbide tips (porting and filing the oil return line)
oil w/ filter
coolant
7/8 o2 sensor socket
Assorted sockets and wrenches
1g oil feed line (RRE)

The trickiest part of the install was transfering the coolant lines from the t25 to the 20g. You need to do some bending of the lines to make them work. I needed to replace the lower coolant line because it wasnt long enough. I think it was 3/8 inch, but im not sure. Thats why I needed to run to the hardware store.

Make sure to spray everything down with pb blaster before doing the install. That stuff is amazing. I didnt break one bolt or stud... everything came off very easily. I let it soak over night.

Other than that, I just followed the vfaq for a 16g install on a 2g.

Let me know how the install goes. Im curious how the 2g 20g will perform with the tdo6h compared to my tdo5.

Im very interested in hearing more about this turbo. Especially any track times with it. Midnight do a review on the vrs exhaust too. Im interested in that but it seems not many people have it.
I should have track times by august. Im waiting for the injectors and DSM link. Im hoping that the car will be in the mid to high 12's after tuning.

I also have the SBR 2G20G, ran into some install quirks:

Like mentioned oil feed line is 1G style, so you may want to pick one up from a junkyard or look into some filing. You'll need new gaskets in and out of that line.

Be sure to unhook your battery so you don't blow your 100alternator fuseable link when you remove the lower heat shield.

If you position the water pipes to both direct twoard the top of the turbo you don't have to bend them. Both of my lines now rest on top of the intake and then make their way back to the rubber hoses. The line closest to the firewall was reuseable bu the closest to the fan is now about 9" long.

Nothing else was really that tricky...though I also noticed the compressor housing was not the roomiest. Wastegate housing could use at least SOME work, so you may want to look there.

Here are some of my pics, I'll post back after I can get some tuning done (crosses fingers)

Would it be a good idea to get the 2g install kit. Will that have all of the things I will need besides tools?
An install kit is a good idea but you wont NEED everything. You can get by with using all the items listed on the RRE "hacker" install kit, minus the j pipe. Thats basically what I did.

I'm about to order one. Can you provide some more impressions on your new turbo? i.e. daily streetability?

Would you recommend td05 or td06 turbine wheels/house?

What rpm do you see full-boost?

thanks.:)

I still havent put it all in yet. Waiting to do the full install all at the same time. I am putting this on....

20g tdo6h (with 2g install kit)
evo ported manifold
greddy big fmic
650 fuel injector clinic
255 lp fuel pump
msd 8.5 wires
ngk 7 plugs
afc-II (black with maroon face)
3" VRS SS turboback o2 elim. (no cat)

Should all go on in the next 2 weeks. After that I will give my impression.:)

Next is a 4G64 swap!;)

Did you consider t3/t4 option? If so, why did you choose 20g?

I'm planning to install either one in 2 weeks too!

gl,
:)

4g64 swap????? HUH:confused:

are you saying your swapping your 4g63 for a 4g64

Everything below was taken from the magnus website. It seems a bit pricey, but if you are doing the 6 bolt swap why not spend the extra for a complete badass motor. The added displacement will spool a 20g like stock. I am sure you can gather the parts yourself and spend a little less. But I think magnus has the pauter rods custom made instead of using the normal pauter rods.

Check out this guys wesite about the swap. It took him about 4 months to get it all together. From what I can tell by his entries he still doesn't have it in the car.

"2.4L Hybrid motors have seen increases of over 50hp and 130 ft/lbs of torque by a simple drop in on mildly modified setup. NOTE when using the 2.4L you can now move to a larger Turbo because of the increased displacement."

"Our 2.4L motor has all of the features that made our first 2.4 a force to be reckoned with on the street and drag strip. But now it has more, we've taken 520grams off of the entire rotating assembly, taken 30 grams off the big end of each rod, lengthened the rod, taken 30 grams of each piston. We now have a faster revving, motor capable of taking even more hp and seeing even higher RPM. "

but isn't the 4g64 a step down from a 4g63, the 4g64 is the engine in the 96-99 non turbo spyders, it a single over head cam??? Are you sure its a 4G64:confused:
Read the "4G64 Swap" thread in the advanced forum.

4G64 2.4L block with a DOHC head from the 4G63 bolted on.

We just installed a sbr 2g 20g (td05) on my friends 2g. We bent the living hell out of the coolant lines to make them clear and ran some 3/8" rubber hosing.

The only bad thing about the outlet and not needing a J pipe is the outlet is facing the opposite way for a FMIC so now there will have to be a big 180 turn right off the bat :(.

The car stil is without tranny and a few more things, but will be running dsmlink, 660's, and a MAFT in the UIP. Will post back in a few weeks on how she runs :D.

Keep us updated Turbocharged.

Ive been meaning to keep everyone updated on my car, but things havent been going the way ive planned.

1. My EGT is still not here. Ive been waiting FOUR months and ppt has still not sent it to me.

2. DSMlink is no longer selling their chips. They are focussing all of their time on making a second version. They are hoping its out by early september.

3. I just got into a small accident, so Ive been spending my extra money on fixing up my car.

I spoke to Mike about getting a new compressor housing if/when I switch to a FMIC routed without the stock locations. He said they'd be happy to dig up a new one, and I'm sure they could weld the elbow on backwards if you asked them nicely.

Just for my 2c, I've got a huge boost leak and haven't been able to fix it yet...other than that the car runs well (crosses fingers).

I take back #2. I just bought DSMlink off of dsmtrader.com. So hopefully Ill have the 660's and the DSMlink up and running in the next few weeks. Im going to call PPT tomorrow. Has anyone else had problems with recieving products from them. Im considering canceling and getting a regular EGT gauge...

My install of an SBR 20g

Well I got mine in over the weekend. The difference between mine and the 2g20g is that it is not in the same housing and I am using the TDO6H wheel.

When I recieved the turbo it had a nice welded elbow and look AWESOME.

The install went well. Took time since I have never done it or seen anyone do it before. Denting the line and installing it with a ported evo went well. It was the VRS exhaust with the 3" O2 elim. that was a little hairy. (I ordered a Highflow cat and am still waiting for it, the note was WAY to LOUD with the testpipe) The dp has to be dropped to change the oil filter (no big deal), and the o2 sensor is right next to the oil return line. It is all in and runs great.

Then on Monday I got the injectors, 255 low pressure (not running a regulator), S-AFCII (blackfaced), plugs (7's), and MSD 8.5 wires installed. The car runs like a top but is in need of some good tuning.

Overall the lag is there, but the TOPEND is crazyfast!

If you want insta-spool, stay with a 16g variant. This is a great track-street turbo. But I woulld put more emphasis on track, unless you troll around in 2nd gear going 35mph.

Oh, and if you are still running around with the stock clutch I hope you have some $$$ laying around for a new one. It is now Sat. just one week later and my stock clutch with 40,000 miles on it is burning its life away!!!

I now have a ACT 2600 in the mail!:D
