hey everyone I havent been very succesful in finding info on getting rid of the pop ups on my 1g and converting them to to look like the pics below. I am will be fabricating my own set of headligths and will be sure to keep everyone informed on how the proccess is coming along. I am also HIGHLY considering making a business out of this. I would make a kit that would include everything and WOULDN'T require any special fabrication of your cars body or stuff like that. (the two cars in the pics are a nissan nsx and a rx-7) how much would you guys pay for somethign like this?

id pay about 150 for them. they might look strange witht the lines of the early 1g's but id say go for it and keep us posted. can anyone pshop this? just so we can see how it would look?
oh and what bulbs are you going to use? i haven't been able to find a set of bulbs/housings that size please post what they are and how much they cost.
good luck
peace

I take it those arent actual things youve made then?

Ive already got a single prototype made. Im just working out some wiring issues and sourcing the lights. Had to take a break from the project to finish my last semester of college but I should be back on it after Christmas.

My prototype is very 300zx in appearance. I prefer that to the rasied version since it will keep the lines of the hood intact. All the measurements work out and I even looked at using a two light combination. I had a driving light and a projector fog on each side and they were wired to work with the stock headlight switch. It required a little more effort than you would imagine however. In light of making the housing, it think it will be easier to fit a different light set in it. I already have the idea, but I want to try it first to make sure the particular light will work.

even though my car doesn't have pop ups i'd have to vote for the 2 roundish ones

Ive been thinking about a conversion for this for awhile too. A set up that has a clear plastic cover in place of the metal flip top and lights below it would be nice. But the angle may not work. As you can see I have lights where the turn signals usually are. Maybe a hood with the flip up headlight section welded to it and a "glass" turn signal housing converted kinda like I did but with decent headlights would work? once the flip up lights are removed there would be plenty of room to work with.

i'd pay between 200-250, just to be different

Looks like the later model 300zx.

The angle actually works out pretty good. At the back of the housing there is quite a bit of depth and the lights wont be back very far into the hood.

Im intending to use the twin projectors out of a late model 3000gt. I got the idea after seeing a wrecked one where the outer housing was busted and I could see the actual light module itself. Looks to be about the perfect size. Wiring may be a little interesting, but Im sure I can make it work with the stock switch gear.

I am realy busy with school but I managed to make this pic. the headlights conversion is made by east bear for an rx-7. the headlighst only had primer on them but its just to get some ideas

heres anothe rlittle digital conversion. a kit liek this would be easier to make and cheaper than if I made one with 2 lights.(but 2 round lights look better so I could do both) the light sin the pic were grafted off a nsx

I agree saucy those do look good. that style of light is way easier to fabricate for a 1g. I spent all night lookign at the headlight assembly on my car and researching on other conversions (for rx7's) and have decided to go full throttle into this idea. But one of the first steps to being able to fabricate these is having a machine to form and mold them and that should take about a week to make the machine. the first set of lights I am gonna make will be 2 round lights (one might be a little oval) the mold will take a while to make but I will post any pics of my progress on the prototype. I dont plan on just letting this die down I REALY WANT TO MAKE THESE LIGHTS!! lol well here is my final idea pretty much for my first design.

one more thing...if I do the design just like in the pic I just posted do I have anyone that would buy a set for sure if I charged
$225 + s/h???? and I am tlaking abotu a kti that would have everything and wouldnt require nay cutting of metal on the car.. all you do is take out the old lights and put in the new ones and plug it right in without any hassle. the area around the lights can be easily painted and the lights will be adjustable

i dunno if id pay quite that much for headlights, mebbe 175$ - 200$ + ship MEBBE, but id def like black not CF ones =p

well they could be done in any color you want to paint them. I was just using that pic as an example of the design. some people like CF some dont. it looks ok to me but to do REAL carbon fiber would cost too much to make for me. they have vinyl sheets that could be used too go over it though..hmmmmm  YES!! another idea!! I gota go work on this now.............

#22 ·
you guys cant forget this too.....the kit would include a set of fog lights and driving lights. and those alone will cost $70-$125 total for both for decent ones

#23 ·
hey does can anyone show me a diagram of how I should setup the wiring?? and I am not sure on what lights to buy. I have everythign thought out except the lights. will a fog light and small driving light be sufficient lighting???? or how should I do it so that you can switch between the 2 lights using the normal switch for high/low beams??? I am at a loss right now for the lights so please HELP!!!

thought that yous might wanna see this all the cars yous are thinking about look good and all but are by far not even close to the shape that our cars need but I have solved this ,i was looking at my gf's MIATA and they have the same shape not sure about measurements but the same shape so have a look see, shows how they build them too...

those are some nice lights. But I couldnt see if the rectangle ones were realy adjustable. both designs look "ok" but kinda plain........to boxy and boring. notice how these lights currvvvvve. these lights are teh EXACT design I want to do for my first set of lights
