Ok guy's i was wondring if i can get the same bang for my buck for a side mount.

I know a front mount looks cooler.

But can i get the same profomance out of a side mount?

Depends on what size of turbo you plan to run. A stock smic can only handle so much. With 14psi on the 14b, it'll start to heatsoak, esp going uphill.

A Supra SMIC is a good sleeper upgrade for a 16g.

If you're going bigger, def a FMIC is going to be the most beneficial

Supra SMIC or else a street fmic would work well.

I have the SBR street fmic on my car with the 16g and have ran it to 28psi.
Brendan had the Supra SMIC on his 16g for the longest time at 15-17psi

I have a Dejon sidemount on my EVOIII 16G and have no problems with heatsoak. However, I haven't taken my car to the track yet. My car is a DD so I don't stay in boost a lot.

FYI: k1tty is selling a Supra SMIC in the classifieds.

I've got an Evo3 16g and a Dejon smic. I run up to 28psi of boost through it, and it's great for short bursts. I just ran a 12.7 @ 109 with it a couple of weekends ago. Don't expect to make back to back to back WOT pulls on it, or road race, because it will heatsoak. But for keeping your car sleeper, it's great.

Never run a Dejon side mount
Why not? Do you have any concrete reasons not to? If he can find a used one for cheap, then there's no reason not to. If he's going to shell out for a new one, then he's better off going with a cheap fmic kit for sure.

What are you boosting to?
I'm only boosting 18psi. This is my sleeper daily driver. I have not cut out that area behind the Sidemount to improve airflow efficiency. Since my SMIC is practically next to it, I would imagine a significant improvement if I cut out a hole and replaced it with wiremesh.

It's the largest one that I am aware of. Anything larger would be custom and that's more $$. The supra requires a little tweaking to get it to fit and you'll have the "bulge" in your front bumper. The Dejon only requires making an extra mounting hole.

For my Dejon smic, I replaced that entire plastic piece with two layers of 1/4" hardware cloth, overlaid at a 45* angle to one another, mounted about 1.5" from the back of the core. Keeps all but the smallest pebbles from getting through, and it flows great.

Before I did that, I put a couple of spacers between the core and the plastic inner fender. I made them by cutting a 1/2" long piece of 3" pvc tubing (so I had a skinny donut shape basically), and zip tying them to the plastic. Ghetto for sure, but it got some air flowing through the core, as opposed to just trickling through.
