Important Message Regarding Signature Size
Effective Monday February 12, 2001 the image file size total for all signature images will be limited to 20,000 bytes. With this 20K limitation also comes *zero* tolerance. Meaning, the entire signature of violators is subject to erasure, with no warning.
This 20,000 figure is a total, meaning, if you decide to put three images in your sig, the size of all three contributes to your total. This also includes any smileys you have in there too. The 20,000 byte limit is really quite generous. Sorry if you find it too small, but it is for the benefit of our dial-up DSMtalkers. This represents a doubling of our sig size limit, but with it comes the zero tolerance. Please understand we do not have the time to issue warnings because the DSMtalk community is growing at such a fast rate and the moderating team is already quite busy. If it is noticed that it's over 20K, it is nuked.
How do you find out the file size? Load the image into most graphics programs and you can find out. If it is already on the web, call the image in your browser, or load a page that has the image, and right click on it, choose properties, and look at the size. That's the Microsoft Internet Explorer method.
To reduce the file size of an image, you can crop it and proportionately reduce the dimensions in most graphics programs. A very effective method of reducing color depth and thus lowering file size is to use the free GifBot service at: http://www.netmechanic.com/accelerate.htm. Check it out. Thanks all!
