i went to pepboys to see if they had the colder NGK spark plugs..the BPR7es...instead i found the B..R7es..it doesn't have the "p" in the code...they look identical to the NGK's from the dealers...does anyone have an idea..i put them in and they seem to run 14psi on a 16g well..they were only 1.40 also!!....anyone have an idea

The projector plugs are inexpensive, so there is no reason not to run them.

From my understanding, the projector tip gets the spark further into the combustion chamber and helps light off the mixture better. I cant back that up, though.

Bottom line is, if the car runs fine then dont worry about it. In the future, order the proper plugs in advance so you have them when you need them.

Ok now I have a question.

I also have these non-projected spark plugs in my car. What problems could this cause??? Could it cause my exhaust to smell like unburnt fuel and make my exhaust tip get a bronze/rainbow color (gasoline)??? Because that is what my car is doing. Until now I have blamed that on my Walbro Fuel Pump. Thanks

It *could* cause you to run a bit richer if the mixture wasnt being ignited properly.. but I would have to agree, that with as extreme as your situation is, it probably is the fault of the fuel pump.

If you have a Walbro and no fuel control, you are running pig rich. I doubt the non projector plugs would make such a big difference.

Well I actually do have everything tuned to around .91 or .92v with the S-AFC.

Oops :) there was so much stuff in that post I replied to, that it ended up putting the wrong persons name on the quote.

Oh well!

Anyways, there is no reason that your exhaust should be smelling rich of gasoline if you have your car tuned.

Are you running a test pipe instead of a catcon?

Yep I am, and ever since I put on the downpipe and testpipe my car has sounded like ass, smelled like ass, and the tip is those colors.

Tonight I am putting in an upgraded turbo and 625cc injectors so I hope the problem isn't a big one. I will be getting a datalogger in a week or two.

Well, not having a cat will contribute to this problem. The matrix inside of the catcon gets really hot, and burns excess gas from the exhaust. So, not running a cat will make the exhaust gasses smell more like gasoline.

However, it sounds like your problem is bigger than that.

Is it running properly? Any loss of power?

It SEEMS to be fast. During a downshift it will still pull my head back into the seat and try to swerve me out of my lane. It drives MUCH MUCH better in the cold night air than in the hot/warm day air, but I know thats true for all turbocharged cars.

However, the way it sounds is just crazy. I've never heard anything like it, it is SO turbulent, watery, burbly sounding. Sometimes it will give out a little backpop (miniature backfire) when I change from 2nd to 3rd gear when driving hard. It actually sounds like an old POS early 80s truck going down the street or something.

Thanks for the help so far man.

I had my car in the shop recently and i found out they put in new park plugs, they put in the bpr6s instead of the 7s, do you think that will effect performace at all, and also what is the proper gap for a car with my mods.

#16 ·
What I have always heard, is that 7s do no good at all unless you are making a lot of power. If you have a 20G or larger size turbo, then go with the 7s. Smaller, use the 6s.

I dont think anyone has any hard evidence either way though, really.

No, I dont have my BOV vented.

I just put on a 20G and 625's last night and the car sounds ALOT better, I'm not sure if the tip is going to turn colors yet though (because it's still dirty).

Thanks for your help man, I'm gonna be putting in the right (projected) plugs in there anyway.

Maybe there was sometihng wrong with your old injectors? If the tip was messed up, it could have been spraying wrong possibly? Hard to throw out guesses on this problem.

Yea, that's what I was thinking.

And then I was thinking maybe the reason the exhaust sounded bad was because the tiny ass T-25 wasn't creating enough backpressure for the large exhaust piping.

Now I just need to figure out how to make this thing spool quicker.
