Quick question. I know this has been covered but using the search all I can find is information on AWD swaps. I have a 2g Talon. I found a decent deal on a 6-bolt with manual transmission. Now I know the engine will go in, but will the manual 1g FWD tranny go into a 2g FWD?

Thanks in advance.

It will not work without custom mounts, the 1st gen only has one transmission mount on the top. The second gen utilizes a front a rear transmission mount instead of the front and rear engine mount the 1st gens have.

Seeing as your car is a 95-96, it may work. This includes using your top trans mount and your cable bracket and a 6 bolt starter plate. I may be wrong here, but I thought that it was the 97-99 cars that are setup the way that Xuber was mentioning.

For reference, I put a 96 awd manual trans in my 91 awd manual car, and it worked just fine, minus one doll pin.

I would do some more searching. May just find that you'll be fine.

One last resort you can look into, is the compatibility of swapping the internals into your trans. It's really not as difficult as you may think, provided you have a decent amount of mechanical wisdom. I would say go for it, as long as you have a 2nd set of hands to help get the gear sets into the case. I also would get a chitons manual ( this is the one thing I prefer in a chitons over a Haynes) for the internal breakdown, print out the vfaq, and print some of what the actual Mitsu service manual has.

Also, make sure the input shaft will move before installing the trans. Luckily, my first go, I noticed this before installing. I had the 5th gear syncro hub installed upside down. It was easy to not notice that one side has more of an angle than the other.

All 2g cars use the rollstopper engine mounts on the trans bellhousing. 2g trans -> 1g car, fine, the mounts just aren't used. 1g trans -> 2g car won't work without ghetto fabulous mounts. You are much better off to just get a 2g transmission.
