T25 Boost In Neutral?

Im just wondering if my t25 will make any boost, i just rebuilt my engine, and i just found out my slave cylinder is bad... its leaking like crazy... but that will be fixed in the coming days. but my question is, will the t25 create any amount of boost while in neutral? my stock gauge shows nothing even up to 4000RPM, i'll be getting a boost gague once i get paid, but im just wondering for now.

Thanks,
Tanner

without putting load on the engine ("hey, that almost sounded dirty fellah") it will spool the turbo obviously but you will not create a significant amount of boost.

fyi - the stock "boost guage" is about as useful as a shit flavored lollipop.

yeah, i just got home from school, i was going to go and do a boost leak test. take off my slave cylinder, and let the car run some more.

the stock exhaust is so quiet... i couldnt believe the difference between straight off the O2 and a full stock exhaust...

and how exactly does the stock gague work??? which line means you have boost?!?! its so confusing!

The stock gauge CALCULATES boost. Which means, if you have a boost leak or are sucking in more air(hacked mas) that the mas sees, its wrong. Way wrong. Pretty much the most worthlessgauge in the dash.

This is a good reference as how to go about installing the boost gauge. I actually tapped power from the cigarette lighter and had to take out the side console and driver's seat. Total time it took since I was noob at it was about an hour. If I had to do it again, 20 minutes. If you have a 2g (T-25 I assumed you did) the boost gauge doesn't even have numbers next to the gauge to show you how much you are running. Being as you just rebuilt the motor, you won't want to boost the engine that much anyway. Baby it (I know how hard it is, I went through it) for about 500 miles. Do an oil change after you hit that mark, and if you're real anal, every 100 250 500 miles, THEN HAUL ASS!

The stock gauge is more like a meter. Just shows when the boost is hit. In neutral, you won't see much, hence you won't be able to blow off...unless you are atmospheric.

Ya, the stock Boost Guage doesn't even actually read boost... If you give the accelerator a quick stomp type rev-up to say 6k you'll build a few pounds of boost briefly ehough to see the guage move. If your holding it at a steady rpm pretty much nothing without a load on the engine.

Stock gauge = junk. Its not broken because it doesn't show boosting. They said it before, it takes load to make boost. Get an aftermarket gauge after you get your slave cylinder done, (which is the easiest thing ever to rebuild) just do it yourself for 10 bucks (rebuild kit), and then drive it. Then that T25 will definitely make boost. unless you didn't hook up the UICP or something :)

With a DSMChips EProm Chip, you can make that Stock Boost Guage usefull, but I don't know anyone personally that does that. I just read it off the site.

i got the slave cylinder rebuild kit for like... 17 and some change at napa, and its coming in today, sometime around 4. once i get that done i'll probably get a boost gague. if my car will go into first...

thanks for the help and suggestions.
and my brothers supra was the same way, it wouldnt build any boost what so ever in neutral... but in gear it would defintaley get boost.

Babying a new motor is the worst thing you can do.

Go higher than 4k and you will build some. Like 6k rev and you'll get some boost.
And do that couple more times so your oil pump/balance shafts can seize. :D What is the purpose of building boost in nuetral? BOV salute? :wall: This is bad for the car because there is no load on the engine, remember when your car is at 6k rpm, your oil pump/BS is at 9k rpm.

haha, that would be true, IF i had my balance shafts. you think i rebuilt my motor and left those paper weights in? your a crazy guy. and the reason i was asking was because i just didnt know, simple as that, i have the crappy 2g still in there, and im gettin my 1g put on right after smog, just need the UICP. and im kinda curious how you think its "bad" to rev your motor? its not like im sitting in front of my house holding the gas down watching it bounce off the limiter? hasnt even been past 4k yet....

1. Did you remove your oil pump as well?

2. I never said 4k was bad.

3. There are absolutely no good reason for trying to build boost in neutral except for showing off besides in the stagging lane, even then, it's better to use stutter box (launch rev limiter) to build boost.

4. Free revving your motor is bad.....Mkay. ;)
