ok, heres the deal, I just got a 1995 Talon Tsi with 107,000 miles on it. I replaced the fuel injectors when i got it because the old ones had really bad spray. so i drove it for about a week before coming back to school. My sister figured it was ok to take the car out for a spin, well something happened and on her way home and dark smoke started coming out of the engine bay. She pulled it off to the side of the road called AAA and got it towed to the house. My dad called me up today and told me that it starts fine he can rev it up, but he can't get it to engage when he shifts into first, second, third, fourth and so on. wierd thing is you can move the shifter in to the gear postion and it feels like it goes in but you can do this with out putting the clutch down.... My sis said she smelled burning rubber when she saw the smoke. i have an idea what it is, let me know what you think, you guys have much more experience with these cars than me. thanks.

Ok, so you can shift it into gear while the engine is running without pushing the clutch in???? for this to happen it would have to mean that your clutch disc is not sitting on the input shaft splines, or worse..

sounds like your sister doesnt know how to drive a stick and the clutch is probally burnt up, if you fix it yourself it would probally only cost you a clutch kit less a few hours of frustration

no noises now, there was a big clunk when it happened, harts what does this mean that its off the spline? how hard it is to re-align. quick, now is this a few hours of frustration for a person who knows their way around the drivetrain well, or is it for a person who can follow directions well. i would hate to bring it to a shop to get this done. seeing as i just paid 5000 for the car itself. and what clutch would you guys reccomend the ACT 2100 or another oem one, i plan on running about 300 hp by the end of the summer. thanks

its a few hours for someone who is mechanicly inclined and can follow instructions well, it about 2hrs for someone who knows there way around the drivetrain, being that there was a big "clunk" it very posibly broke the disc but you should hear some noise when pushing in the clutch, if the the disc is off the spline you can definatly consider the disc fubar

Wow, no noises... More then likely you will need you a new disk. It could have messed your pressure plate up, it could have messed the throw out bearing up. Just will have to wait till you drop the tranny to find out.

If you have the money. I would grab you a ACT clutch, new t/o bearing, clip, pivot ball, and if you grab a 2600 a taboo fork to top it off.

lets not go over board here, i was thinking ACT 2100 maybe a t/o bearing. i don't have the bank for the 2600 right now

i think that would be better anyway because you do have a 2g, and know how 2g's are prone to crankwalk, a 2600 would only increase your chance of aquiring it

what do you need to know, i can find out, also do you think its the whole clutch or the pressure plate or the disc?
If you roasted the clutch (since that's what it sounds like), you need to have the flywheel turned to 0.610" step height, replace the pressure plate and the disc. It highly recommended you also replace the t/o bearing at that point and use the plastic-sleeved one...
