how come everyone seems to want the rare and unproduced TCUGO, and practically no one has/wants the readily available IPT Electro-Matic Manual Controller.

I heard that the TCUGO actually adjusted line pressure so you weren't at full pressure when daily driving, but the IPT controller is just always at 100% pressure, so I assume that would damage your trans for using it daily.

Also, I emailed IPT to see if they would ever be coming out with a paddle shifter for the Electro-Matic Controller, because that would defenitley be better than the buttons.

The reason is that the TCUGo integrates into the car and lends itself to daily driving much better than IPT's box. Shift pressure can be regulated with another IPT product for $175, but you're still stuck with a slightly ungainly box with buttons on it to shift.

The TCUGo has many features built into it, like the wireless paddles, gear display, and the dynamic pressure control. It was also cheaper than the IPT box. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, it is no longer available.

I have absolutely nothing against the IPT box but TCUGo is/was a superior product. The interface used to shift is the most unappealing aspect to me.

I don't know what to think about the situation. On the one hand, it's been almost 9 months since he sold the last one. I sent him an e-mail before Christmas but never heard back. On the other hand, it took him 2 years to put the thing out in the first place, and many said it never would come out.

The bottom line is that it isn't currently available, and there's a good chance it never will be again. There are other alternatives out there, they just aren't quite as desirable.

i was thinking about that. considering how small and close together those buttons are, doesnt look too hard to miss shift while flying around hard turns.

i wonder how hard it would be to make the unit just two buttons and a switch. one button to upshift, one to downshift and the switch to change over to the tcu. biigger buttons and better layout could make it much more user friendly.

also. how are people (if any ones made em yet) with the tcugo setting up the paddles? i dont know about you guys but ive driven couple cars with the steering mounted paddles and driving aggressively kinda sucked. i used to sell cars at mazda/vw so ive driven the paddle things on the mx-5, rx-8 the new gti w/dsg (dsg is fucking sweet) and i think some other ones but anyways, i remember that when braking the rear loose or when you need the next gear during a turn or turns, it was a pain in the ass to try to "find" the damn paddles. but those were steering mounted paddles that turn with the steering wheel. i think ferrari has ones mounted on the steering column? although i havent taken any of these cars to the track, i would think that it would be easier to just use the shift nob and pump up and down the gears like a trip-tonic automatic or something. :dunno:

IPT's box is more geared towards racing applications and offers the ability to select a gear, not just sequentially shift through them. Theoretically you could switch the box over to shift sequentially, but it wouldn't be the easiest. If you were really interested in something like that, IPT *might* be able to get whoever makes them for them do something like that, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As for the TCUGo, I was pretty disappointed in Hugo's "paddle" setup. It was very obvious that it was meant to be replaced with the magnesium paddle project that never got finished. I seached but couldn't find any other good options on the internet, so I ended up doing a sport-tronic type setup. I modified a 3g shifter to work in my 2g and am running it direct wired to my TCUGo. Eventually I'm going to set up the paddles/switches as well, but for now I love it. Works great and looks like it came that way from the factory :)

Does anyone know how bad it is to have full line pressure all the time? I am thinking of buying the electro-matic controller for my car and not running a TCU at all. It will mostly be driven to the track and drag raced and of course the occiasional street run. Will it damage the tranny?

Have you guys heard about this? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250227

I have one but have yet to install it. You just use the stock shifter to shift through the gears and you can shut it off and on. I can't wait to get it on. I'm just waiting to finish up my awd swap.
Do you know where I can find one? The guy hasnt put one on ebay for a month or so. Do you have an email address for him? Can you PM me any info of his that you have? I really want one but fear I missed out.

I have no firsthand experience with the new box that's hit the market, but it is an entirely different animal than the IPT or TCUGo boxes. Instead of using the solenoids to shift like stock, it drives the solenoids to better accommodate shifting manually/mechanically. I'm not a drivetrain engineer, so I'll leave it up to someone else to chime in as to whether or not it makes for a good alternative.

It's probably not a good idea if it will be seeing much street use. IPT also sells their A/T boost controller that allows altering the line pressure, so you might want to look into that for your setup.

I don't see how the ebay shifter box is sketchy. All it does is make it so there is full line pressure so that the shifts are instant when the box is turned on. It basically does this: http://www.rmtmods.ca/manual shift.htm

Many people have done this without any ill effects. besides I will only be using this thing at the track and I have a built tranny using IPT parts so it'll handle the abuse.
