Fellow DSMers,
I just came back from the hang-out with my local DSM brothers, and I traded my dear, good and old Greddy Type-S with an HKS Racing BOV + 20 bucks.

What do you think of the deal?

My friend wanted to get rid of the HKS because he recently had to put back a 14B and it was too stiff for that kind of boost.

I just wanted to hear from you guys. Do you have any advice on my new BOV? One good thing is that it is a direct bolt-on to my Type-S flange, but as far as install is concerned, what do you reccomend me? I am referring to the nipples, which as opposed to the Type-S, look exactly the same size, and I don't know which one goes where.

Also, I am kinda scared because this sucker is TWICE as big as the Type-S, and I am afraid that I'll have to deal with hood clearance issues.

How do you think will it run with my ETE32?
Is it a good couple in your opinion?

Allright people, I'm going to sleep now.

I'd appreciate if you can give me some input.

Walter

Yup

Yes guys, it is adjustable.

It kinda looks like a Greddy Type-R.

You can see pics by clicking on the underlined words in my first post.

Any other advice and/or input?

Thank you

i think the one for higher boost applications is the HKS Racing Blowoff Valve Type II
http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=759

The HKS Racing Blowoff Valve Type II uses a large single stage aluminum pull type valve to handle the extreme amounts pressure and airflow volume that is associated with the high boost / horsepower applications of 3.0 bar (43.44psi) and 800+ horsepower.
damn.. 3 bars.. 43 psi.. yikes

Itll be fine. its adjustable by changing the spring, or u can buy the same bov with different spring pressure's for certain PSI ranges, as seen here:

17670-004100 ALL 7 - 14 Blue $205.00

17670-006100 ALL 12 - 18 Red $205.00

17670-013100 ALL 6 - 12 Yellow $205.00

17670-014100 ALL 3.5 - 9 White $205.00

News:

OK guys,
didn't get much input this time, but I guess not many members here use this BOV. Anyways, I got some news...

This morning I finally fixed the small water leak I had.

I took the baby for a spin, and the first thing I noticed is that it was idling like shieeet. I was wondering why, since the Type-S was vented to the athmosphere as well, and I thought I might have connected one of the vacuum hoses wrong.

Well, I drive the car to SFP (performance shop in South Fl.) and I speak to Abid, which is the DSM expert there.

He tells me that basically the HKS Racing has a slightly softer spring at idle and much stiffer under boost.

The opposite theory applies for the Type-S, and therefore the mistery is suddently explained.

He tells me that the only solution was to go to Discount Auto Parts and get one of those flexible radiator hoses that come with a coil inside... so I go... freaking 9 bucks for a damn hose, but anyways I connect the BOV back to the Intake and the baby loves it. Idling like a champ, but unfortunately I TOTALLY LOST the super cool and original "va-va-va-ppshhh" sound between shifts, but oh well.

I am pretty sure that if I stiffen the BOV a little bit, I'll be able to vent back to the athmosphere without major idling issues. Why? Simple, because my friend that gave it to me had it vented, and his car was idling perfectly. Yes, he does have a VPC but it wasn't installed yet... :p
My friend had the SAME EXACT car as I do, with different mods, but same ECU, MAS, etc... I made the mistake of softening the HKS all the way before going to the first test-drive. I was afraid it was gonna be too stiff and boost creep on my new ETE32, so I took it easy.

But here was the update for you guys, just in case somebody will ever run into my same problem and perform a search... ;)

Find a sucker to trade that thing to for a Type-S. ;)
I traded my normal SSBOV for a Type-S and have been happy ever since.
Bro, did you actually read the whole thread?

???

Laters guys,

Hey Im wondering if you are still using the hks bov? I have one but am contemplating on whether or not to use it. I dont want it to leak boost, i plan on running 25-30 psi when racing, with a rather large turbo. Let me know how it is working out for you if you are still using it.

The ssbov is fine if you use the re circ kit. I had one w/o the kit and my car was running pretty rich. I have since switched pipes and now use a 1st gen bov. I will probably sell the kit if someone is interested. It's made to fit the stock 2g pipe but could be ataches to any pipe w/ the correct flange.

BOV's ability to hold boost has no relavance to HP, only to how much pressure you are running, get a type s or a HKS SSQ and you will fine, those will hold as much as you ask for the most part.

i understand that, but if i want to hit the 500 hp level wont i need high levels of boost, therfore wont i need a racing bov? im hoping i can get away with a hks super seq. or type s but i need to make sure they will let me hit 500 or so hp on the dyno.

also what do you think about the hks super seq. vs type s?
