my sister's boyfriend has a '94 Integra LS, only mods are lowered and intake (with a system too), so me and my friend were bored and asked him if he wanted to race. He said " sure i'll race ya, but theres definatley no point cuz i know you'll kill me." Only mod i have is a MBC set at 13psi (with stock boost gauge DOH). We met up with him nearby and drove out to a desserted commercial road. We each had a friend in our cars so his friend counted to 3 to start the race. I kept the rpms at 4000 and launced pefectly (my first time even attempting to launch). Later he told me that he launced at 6500, which i could tell by the 10 foot long tire marks he left behind and by the sound of his intake. So we were off, and once his tires grabbed he launced forward ..i was like wtf???? i was about a bumper behind and he was pulling?? i check my boost gauge real fast and it shows roughly 7-8psi ...uhh??? so he ends up winning by about a 1/2 car length...

Ok, first of all..i'm REALLY confused, how did a fwd integra beat my TSi AWD??? i know i launched at only 4000 rpms, but still i shouldnt be losing to his car! Also, i had been driving all day, since it was my first day of actually gettin it out on the road, so could the turbo just have been overworked and caused it to only boost at 7psi?? i'm just so confused..thx

well if you got beat by a ls with just a intake you got problems. my 91 ls will NEVER beat my talon and i got waaaayyyyyyy more than just a intake on it. think you need to race him again or do some more tuning.

The stock boost gauge doesnt actually measure boost but instead gives a computer guestimate based on airflow.
And since it was reading so low I will say that you are slower than a stock car and that you didnt drive it well.
Its not the cars fault.

Could be low engine compression, boost leak, turbo going bad, clutch slipping, poor driving skills, heat-soaked intercooler, incorrect MBC setting, etc......you get my point.....

And put a freekin' real boost gauge in there before you blow up your motor. No wonder your car's slow - you're beating the shit out of it without knowing how much boost you're actually running.

"Now me and the mad scientists have to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings you fried...."

"You're lucky you didn't blow the welds off the intake...." ;)

How the hell do you even know what PSI you're running at? I hate it when stupid people buy a boost controller as their first mod when they get a turbocar and "turns up the booOOST", when they don't even have a full exhaust or boost gauge

There's gotta be something missin here cuz i don't think you can lose to a 91 integ LS if you were driving "perfect"

I raced one the other day. We started from about 10 mph, and ran it up to the top of third (around 90). I had him by about 3 cars at the end.

I happened to be datalogging . . . I had 43 counts of knock all the way through 1st and 2nd, and 20+ counts of knock through 3rd.

The point is, you definitely have problems.

i wouldnt worrie about some of those harsh remarks, just make sure that you get yoru car running right and i think your driving might have something to do with you loosing the race. Im just guessing that your somewhat clueless on how to launch an awd car sooooo just practice and tune/modd your car and things will be fine! just make sure you do your research!

DmoneY, I'll tell you exactly what happenend. you'r computer detected a lot of knock and it cut the psi to "save" your engine. If you had a LED mod you'd see it on all the time. This must have happened not during the race but before that because you already said you drove it all day. A simple reset (pull the room fuse from the fuse box for 15 sec ) will get you 12 or 13 psi back. Now go race your friend again since his ego is so big now.

first of all, i bought the car with the boost controller and i havent had a chance to get a boost gauge. Believe me, it's definately my first mod, i know! also, i drove the car around today and it was boosting up to 13psi or at least the stock boost gauge said so. So i'll practice my launching more and race him again and hopefullly kill him this time.

Do the stock boost gauges on the older DSM's have numbers or something, because I know mine doesn't have nothing but some lines and some math signs.

1gs have a boost gauge with #s and lines shows -7 0 +7 +14 totally inaccurate when i compare it to my VDO gauge.

come on man my almost stock TSi FWD whoops all these modded GSRs and Sis around here 4.6 GT stangs older 91ish IROCS. this is a BS story you gotta be telling me that you lost to a NON-Vtec 140hp car.. i missed second gear racing a modded Si which is 160hp and weighs less compared to that 140hp Ls teg and still beat it. i dont know what your problem is man but you need to check your car out, thats sad..dont even race your just going to embarrass us more :)

nevermind the people who are busting your chops man. to tell you the truth, i think driving had little to do with it. your car should pull with just open throttle on that car nevermind shifting and launching. the stock gauge{as said above} isnt much use. if you happened to catch a look at the boost gauge at high rpm it could have just fallen off. but it seems like a problem mechanically. whatever it is....sort it out before beating on your car anymore.

Well, if he has a boost controller on there then it wouldn't be the computer cutting boost due to knock detection. It's either a faulty wastegate, or a leak in your intake tract. Also you could be having severe problems with compression so get your cylinders checked. My advice is to get a real boost gauge, make an intake leak tester via the vfaq and test out your system, and get a compression check on all cylinders. And after you get a real boost gauge unhook your wastegate hose from the boost controller and cap off the now open end of the controller. Go for a run and see if you can get above 7-8 psi. Be VERY VERY careful though!

Suprisingly, I think the GVR4 stock gauge is fairly accurate. It's different than the T/E/L gauge. I've tested it with my autometer gauge and have found this:

My stock gauge is 6 light bars. The first bar is from -15 to -10 psi, and the second one is -10 to -5 and the third one is -5 to 0 psi. This is the vaccum. Then the last three bars are the exact opposite and for boost. I've found that they light up at the exact moments when I reach 5 psi, and then 10psi, and then 15.

okay okay, let me get this straight, YOU LOST TO AN INTEGRA, well son of a B&%*, nah im just messing with ya, check your compression, launch at 4500 rpms and dont bog it (dont let the rpm's go back down when your launching :D ) check for leaks, you can get a leak tester from mach v instead of having to make one yourself, and race that bastard again while your car is fresh and ready to run,

peace

my friend as a 90-93ish Acura LS with CAI , plugs, wires and exhaust. the fucker is a 17.0 second car.
test your car and fix it. then race him again and rip him apart.
if he pulls on you next time. you'd better pull extra boost outta' your ass and beat him:D .........just kiddin.
good luck with the tests

update..

well my car died (read the post "alternator problem?" in general tech forum) so i put in a new battery, then it was idleing around 1200rpms and surging to 1500..lucky for me I had read the infamous BISS article, and then realized that after my car started dieing that the screw was missing, so i found it down below and put it back in. BAM! perfect idle! BUT, my alternator was still bad, when we hooked up the volt meter it dropped from 12.3v(car off) to 12.13v(car idleing). So tomorrow i'm getting the new alternator installed and HOPEFULLY the car will run normally. Then in a few days i'll race the Integra again and i BETTER kill him. but we'll see!

Changing the alternator should help your car perform alot better than before. Just yesterday my car was running so shitty. I come to found out my alternator was dead. Replace it. Any my car runs great
