i just got turbo rebuilt w new bearing i dont think the guy put the turbo back in balance n i have shaft play i havent put it back in my car but i think i should get it balanced n when i talked to the guy he was like the bearings need to be filled and when they get filled they will eliminate some of the saft play what do u guys think?

have you run the turbo since it was rebuilt?

If not, it sounds like the shaft bearings werent replaced.

If you have run it since it was rebuilt and it now has shaft play again, then it may have been out of balance and I would recommend having it re-rebuilt with new bearings and balanced.

Ever hear of a period? Or maybe a comma? I can't even read your post. Please use "and" instead of "n".

Even though he worded his post a bit abbrasively, the fact is that proper spelling, grammar and english mechanics will greatly help to improve the readability of any post. It can very well be the difference between noone replying, and have a 3 page thread.

Just try to make a conciencious effort to use correct spelling and punctuation. :)

My BRAND NEW big16g had up and down play when I bought it (minimal, but there was SOME play), but in and out was tight as can be.
If I am not mistaken, there is almost always a tiny bit of shaft play. It should not even be really measurable, but is some there. I believe the in and out play is caused by the wearing of the thrust bearing, but I am not 100% sure.

Also, on a brand new turbo, some of that play will probably be taken up once oil is circulated through the center section.

There, thats better :D

Why don't you put it in the car and test it?

I will as soon as i get the turbo balanced on monday. Runn the car for a lil bit and then check for the shaft play. I know when i checked the turbo before i got the bearings changed the trust bearing was really messed up n i had shaft play but ill try it out i guess it cant hurt.
