killed a GTP...

first kill in a long time. pulled up next to it and was pretty excited. noted the GTP tag on the side and that confirmed it. i reved barely to like 2000 just to see if that would start anything. they pulled foward and stopped hard so i new they wanted to play.

they were drifting into the intersection as the opposite light turned yellow while i pumped between 4500 and 5000. light hit green and they had already left, i slipped it real fast and the car shook violently (kinda like/studdering/pulsing) it wasnt bog it was like the tires were slipping - all 4...? apparently i still need launching help... anyway, i immediately caught up and proceeded to get a car and a half to 60, when they gave up.

i slowed down and sure enough they approached hard, i was going 40 and waited til at rear bumped, dropped to second and took off. they were like shocked and immediately gave up. so i cruised at 60 when they tried one last time but as i took off they called quits and turned off somewhere...

damn GTP's....

dang...theres no need to bash all the GTP owners out there....jus cuz u beat one...i'd say they r pretty impressive cars considering that its a family car too...I hear there r quite a few that run pretty fast...and from reading your post it seems like u started the race and talkin like u're the racer....

Nice kill, but...

...GTP owners can think whatever they want when they're modded. If you put clear corners on your DSM, can I call you a ricer? Technically yes, but it just isn't fair. If you have the balls to back up the rice on your ride, you can call yourself whatever you like.

GTPs are supercharged V6s with 240hp right out of the box. They come in 2 or four door varieties. If the sedan can't be considered a racer, then you better tell all the GVR4 owners out there to get their asses off the track.

I'm not trying to flame you here. Just letting you know that there are GTPs out there that you do not want to mess with if you only have minor mods. And if you're stock, be very careful of the stock GTPs. We bite. :D

I've already established that I intend to be the embassador of goodwill between the GTP and DSM communities. I bring peace, harmony, and education to all! :p

Just my two cents as I've been in both worlds...

Well its not cool to say all GTP owners think they are racers. So you killed one, cool but lets act like a winner and not a basher. Trust me the driver skill plays the major factor when street dragging. Lets show our DSM respect to other car owners, even though we get none from the V8 crowd.

yeah really... bashing aint cool... don't we got a good relations thing going with the GTP crowd? Not to flame ya... nice kill by the way! ;)

It doesn't look like 91eclipsegsx is bashing anyone-He just posted a kill story. If it was any other car, you guys wouldn't tell him he's bashing them.
Anywayz I've beaten many GP's with just a K& N filter by about 1-2 car lengths-just some of my kills-can't handle it--TOO BAD

Good kill 91eclipse.
Peace

oh good kill.. I love GTP's! I've seen several at the local track.. runnin 14.8/9's stock.. and w/ bigger blower pulley there are two runnin high 13's and one runnin 13.0's..VERY impressive for a 4 door! or any car for that matter :)

easy fellas

agreed, GTP's are pretty cool. not a big fan of their suspension tuning though... they need a better Dif, i drove my dad's and they spin forever off the line... my point is is that ive talked to lots of people, and been in chatrooms and GTP owners are ALWAYS out there racing.

hell, i dont rev at every damn thing in sight. it just seems the GTP owners are over anxious. they are nice ass cars though, but in this day everything is getting fast! technology is comming a far way. i mean, come on, you dont see a volvo s60 (or is it 70) owner reving at lights, and they do 0-60 in 6.6 for a big ass sedan. there's tons of sport sedans these days very capable, 4 door family cars and all, with +++200 hp v6's.

also, i was fairly surprised i did so well against it and that's why i posted cause they are hella quick.

i hate engineering/technological advances!

Race Everyone

I rev anything that looks fast at any light. I don't care if they are faster than me, I want to see where I measure up...know what I am saying. I raced my friend in her dad's 911 carrera. She couldn't pull on me at all. She was impressed, I was impressed, but would anyone else in a porsche have 'wasted' their time on me? Probably not, even though they would have been in for a big surprise.

I say give em all hell, if I was the GTP owner I'd want a piece of you too!! ;)

I like those newer GTP's ... the look pretty cool, they're low-slung, and come with 240 supercharged horses stock.

Problem is, once you start modding them, you run into problems. The auto tranny's won't take much more than stock hp, and putting a smaller pulley on the charger to make it run faster seriously decreases the SC's lifespan.

Still pretty quick stock :)

240 stock hp...

various other makes have powerful stock v6 or i6's

-volvo makes a 268 hp I6TT and 236hp I5T
-saab makes a 230 hp I4T
-all of porches F6 (minus the 2.5L boxer) make well over 240hp
-the prowler v6 has 253hp
-many of the other v6's NA make around 220hp, so with forced could probably easily match

however looking at these numbers, i come to realize that the GTP is even more impressive as it is hella cheap compared to the listed above, but there is less powerful, quicker sedans out there. i guess it all depends what you want. more power to the GTP owners.

now im embarrassed being afraid of these POSSIBLY MODDED!!! huge sport sedans (for which i had previously thought a family sedan with some spunk) compared to a little tricky dsm.

this one had a S/C emblem beneath the GTP emblem, just to put away any NA suspicions...

I did race a GTP once. I was late for work and I had two cars blocking both lanes in front of me. once I had some space I took off. I pass this kid with his brand new GTP and he started chassing me. At the next stop light we line up and I rev to about 4.5k. It turns green and a do a minor spin with all four and I leave him behind me about 2 cars. I shift to second and the gap gets bigger. while in third gear I cross this little hill in front of me and I don't see him no more... Ok it was a rainy day! I was surprised he wanted to race so I had to teach him a lesson about awd.
I think he got the point thow I wish the roads were dry so I can see how fast he was.

Ah, traction...

We GTPers have a hard enough time maintaining traction off the line on dry asphalt, let alone wet roads. I did a little experiment with a friend up here in Colorado one day on wet roads. Light turned green, and I floored it.

Needless to say, the tach needle was buried before I made it over the crosswalk. Speedo said I was doing 60! Not a good thing for the tranny, but oh well. Another excuse to get a bulletproof one built. :)

We don't have a limited slip differential, and we weigh pretty close to 2 tons (3700 lbs. is about average). All the torque that we make just throws the nose in the air off the line, and of course makes for mad wheelspin. Even in bone stock form.

So yes, we are quick, but we have a problem getting going. That's that Catch 22 with having nearly 300 ft./lbs. of torque. Yeah, great -- huge power. But unless you're rolling around on slicks, you're burning 10,000 miles off your tires with every street race. Gets kinda expensive. :)

And here's the breakdown: For '97 and up Grand Prixs, the GTP is always supercharged, the GT gets the 3.8L N/A, and the SE is sold with a choice of the 3.1 they put in the Grand Am or the 3.8L N/A the GT gets. The SE differs from the GT and GTP in that it doesn't get the dual tips or most of the body molding. Previous generation Grand Prixs were offered in GTP form as well, but didn't get a supercharger.

No GTP owner that knows DSMs will say, "Oh, we're faster and your car sucks," as most know that an MBC and a lead foot puts a world of hurt on 90% of what run on the road.

We do recognize our cars for what they are: serious straightline performance for $25K in an entry level luxury sedan. Can't beat that. :D

oh cool a post about gtp's! heh i have a gtp too! anyways though MOST of the gtp's out there are driven by old women that don't race and alot of them are driven by old men that don't race. however though there are a few of us that DO race and even less of us that have mods. it is very rare to see a modded gtp anywhere since it is a family car. the ones that are modded though are pretty fast. i ran 9.563 in the 1/8th mile when i was stock. when i ran that i was racing a honda accord that was stock but had green parking lights. he ran like a 10.4 in the 1/8th. with the mods i have now though i would hope i would be in the mid 8's. i will see though when the track reopens. ok nuff talk, just wanted to let you know that it just depends on whether the GTP is modded or not. fastest one in our club runs in the 12's for the 1/4mile but lately on his posts it has been saying something about the 11's but i don't know? ydersbtr u know what chris is running nowadays? btw i'm 16 you all. i'm a very young gtp owner but i think they are awesome and fast, but still not fast enough.

oops the car that ran the 10.4 was a honda prelude not a honda accord. sorry for the brain fart. btw why can't you edit messages on this board?

I got a question for you GTPGUY. I saw you posting under your mods 3.4" pulley and I was wandering how much boost do you get with that and also how much boost do you get stock. Also what is the maximum boost you can get out of your supercharger.

#25 ·
I'll take this one...

I was wandering how much boost do you get with that and also how much boost do you get stock.
It depends of course on the altitude (I'm in Colorado). Stockers at sea level get ~8 psi, while I'm stuck with 6 psi in stock form (good thing I'm not stock any more! :D). The 3.4" pulley generally gives about 2-4 psi depending on what other mods the car has. A 25-30hp increase. This is about the most common pulley size for modded GTPs.

Also what is the maximum boost you can get out of your supercharger.
I've heard tale of legendary GTPers running 15-16 psi with a 3.0" pulley, but I imagine their transmissions torpedoed shortly thereafter and put a halt to that. I'm hoping to get about 12-13 psi up here in Colorado with a 3.0" this spring. A 3.0" pulley is already maxing out the s/c's RPM limit, so smaller than that hasn't really been done yet. And as of right now, there is no replacement s/c. Some have ported the stock M90, but I guess I can't say what practical benefit that has.

You can edit messages on this board...this board is different from other boards in that the edit button for the post is below the post rather than above like other boards....if you try to edit a post that is not yours you will get an error.

Here's the edit.......wow it does'nt mention the edit :).......you can cause so much havoc if this is the case he he he...
