Will my factory radio lock up if I disconnect the battery??

I am going to be doing somethings to my car soon and I will be resetting the ECU. I have the stock Infinity system. Will it lock up and require me to enter a code to get it working again if I disconnect the battery? If so what would I need to get the code from the dealership? would they be able to get it from the VIN or would I have to find the serial number on the radio itself?

i'm not sure but when i had the stock system, resetting the ecu didn't put the radio into antitheft mode. There must be a small time window that you have to disconnect/reconnect the power.
How long do you leave the battery disconnected when you reset your ECU. I've also heard of people removing two fuses and that will also reset the ECU would that do anything to the radio.

Disconnect the negative terminal only.

If you disconnect the negative terminal, that will reset your ecu but not throw the radio into anti-theft mode. If you disconnect the postive terminal it will throw the radio into anti-theft mode. I've done both and I know.

The reason why is that the radio has its own ground. So when you disconnect the negative terminal the radio still gets power (positive terminal connected) and its still grounded. The ecu however is no longer grounded and is reset.

Don't know about 1Gs though, they may be different.

Or if your damn battery dies on you. It happened to me :(

Just get the serial on the top of the radio and call the dealership for the code.

Radio

OK I bought my car used and when I got it no code you can do one of two things if it goes into anti-theft

1. you can get the VIN go to the dealer where it was originally bought from and they can look it up or your local dealer and have them call the original dealer (BTW you need to know the original dealer)

2. it is a four digit code start with 0001 then 0002....I think you get the picture.

Hope this helps

OK people. I went round and round with Chrysler and Mitsu on this issue. The Talons DO NOT have the radio code issue. The Eclipses DO. I was worried about this because I was going to sell my infinity radio to someone, and they were worried about that. When I called Chrysler to see about getting the code, they had no clue what I was talking about.(I called two dealers, and chrysler customer service) I even called Mitsu, and had the guy look up the serial# on the radio, and it was not in the system. So, that is one difference between Talons and Eclipse's with Infinity radios. Kinda strange huh... ;) Oh, and when lady got the radio and put it in her eclipse, it worked just fine.

I agree that I don't think that the Talon has the anti-theft feature. While messing around, I removed the battery from the car for a while (1hr+). The car performed really crappy as the ECU reset but the stereo work fine (except for having to redo my presets of course).

(Nope, don't have the cool warning sticker."
