I recently purchased a 6-bolt motor for swap later this year into my 96 TSi AWD. The 6-bolt came with a 14B but one of the turbine "fins" is damaged. I have RnR turbo back 3" with O2 eliminator ready to go on and I'd like to swap out the T25 while I'm at it. I'll probably order the 14B install kit from RRE for the install.

I'm wondering two things.

1) Will this amount of damage cause the turbo to trash itself if I use it?
2) What would be the most PSI that I should run it at?

This will be a temporary solution until I get the 6-bolt built and installed.

Any information/experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
MattO

NOt no, but HELL NO!!! You wanna fuck something up bad?? You will blow the turbo the first time you boost it. It probably has bad shaft play already. You are just asking for a headache if you install that turbo. Not to be a dick, but if it were my car, I would not risk it. Turbos spin at 250k rpm. They have to be balanced to run properly, bad balance, bad problems. It almost looks like it sucked something in that did not agree with it.

Ok how fast do they spin??

Do research before you tell someone they are wrong;)
Do YOUR research before you tell someone how something functions. Instead of pulling a figure out of your ass. http://www.turboneticsinc.com/comp_maps/fig1.html

You can use this as a general reference to how fast turbos spin. Even the smallest trim spins at a maximum of 150k rpm. If you really want, you could find a flow map on a t25 and find out for sure. Or find a comparable trim.

BTW, here is a link with some mitsu flow maps, and wheel dimensions. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/Turbo-compare.html

Arghh!! Typo!! I read my other post. I should have said "Turbos can spin over 100k" 250k should have been 25k. I will take the hit, sorry.....

BTW, I pulled nothing out of my ass, thanks....

I wouldn't really say it is ego. Although it really comes off that way. I'm just not one to let misinformation fly around without being contested. The last thing anyone needs is to have their question answered incorrectly. I've seen way too much of this on alot of message boards.

Thanks for the opinions all!

I will definitely NOT be using this thing...even if it is only for a few months. I really wanted to ditch the T25 for something a little better. Guess I'll put on the exhaust and hope that the T25 runs a little better.

BTW, I'm going to take lots of pictures of the RnR exhaust and the install and post everything in hopes that other people can use the information. I've used lots of information from this community...feel its time to give a little something back.

Thanks,
MattO

wouldnt he be able to just by a new 14B compressor wheel (or find on in the junk yard) and install it into the 14B? i dont' know much about what's possible yet, so if this is a extremely stupid question, go easy on the comments. thanks

I'm still a firm believer in the phrase "The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask" or something along those lines. Anyways. Yes you could put a new wheel on, but you would have to rebalance the turbo, so at that point it isn't worth it. Also, after being so out of balance because of so much wheel damage, the rest of the turbo is probably badly damaged, Read:bearings. Hope that answers your question.
