I probably spent 20 hours looking through online catalogs, and general searches before I found the company and part numbers for OEM connectors, plugs, and pins for the ECU.

I should have enough stuff to make at least one more harness, so ya, I can make you one. If I wanted to make any more, I'd actually have to buy stuff though unless I can scam my way into more samples.

Awesome link BTW. I'm definitely going to download those when I get home. EvoScan has some tricky stuff that I really don't understand yet.

Sebba, this isn't "not doing it right" this is simply modding for people who don't need all the features of link v3 but need more than a SAFC or MAFT.

Asmo said earlier that ECUflash blows v2.5 out of the water and v2.5 was more than enough for me.

DSMlink v2.5 w/ EPROM = ~$600
Evo ECU Swap= ~$250

Link is nothing compared to what kind of capabilities you have with opensource and that's only taking into consideration what's available now. Who knows what kind of things it will be capable of doing in the future.

Just because something works now, doesn't mean it is the end all solution.

I don't want to clutter this too much, but what would be a reasonable price for you guys to pay for a harness? Obviously something less then $100 since that's the price of what's available now, though if you got one of those it would have to be modded anyway.

I'll do a recount of what parts I have still and try to figure out how much it'll cost to actually buy the parts.

A friend of mine's got the patch cable already, he tried to make the swap work on his DIY Evo III, but it wouldn't, so he's going to sell it to me.

I asked a friend of mine who's fairly knowledgeable on ecuflash about the GM MAF, and he said he'd be surprised if somebody had hacked the ECU to do it, since it'd be pretty pointless. Only reason I could see to do it would be for a blow-through setup.

EvoFlash ? What are you talking about? I use a GM GAMF on my car. It works 100 times better now that i can use ECUFlash to fine tune some of the details.

I'm sure at some point when DSMLink was growing into the package it is today, many people said it was a 'hack' job. I'm sure all the standalone EMS guys were making the same argument you are today. Now look at what it was grown into. With lots of time and effort, the little 'hack' job seed has grown into a great item.

This is how things start and grow into bigger projects. Its not a money issue for me, I'm an electrical engineer and do well for myself, thanks.

I'm not sure why everyone is spending money on a wire harness, your car came with one. With a little care the Pins can be moved around, and many times at that. Looks factory and clean when done right. If you need to switch back to the factory ECU it takes all of 20 mins to move the pins back. But if you take the time to setup the new ECU correctly, there should be no need to swap back and fourth ECUs.

However, making it yourself would be an excellent way to learn a lot about the electronics in the car. Sitting down with the ECU schematics and looking at all the circuits is fun

I'm planning on buying the harness because A, it's a 15 minute drive to my buddy's house to get it, and B, the Talon is my DD, so if I pop this in and for some reason things don't work, I don't have to scramble to get it running again before I next need to drive it. And there's less of a chance of breaking stuff in the process (I don't trust 13 yr old plastic or wires to stay together through multiple pin swaps).

Once the car runs on the ECU, I'll swap the pins and sell the harness. So look down on me if you want, I'm just playing it safe based on my situation.

I will agree that circuit stuff is fun, to a point. I failed out of a Computer E program because I couldn't do the math (Diff Eq), but didn't mind the circuits courses besides that.

I thought about doing a evo ecu swap on my 3g when i was wanting to turbo and maybe awd it, but never thought about it on my 2g.

I think I'm gonna do this instead of a dsm link, not because of the money but because of the possibilities this has.

Back from the dead...well not that long ago.

So what does the EVO take for a crank trigger setup? Right now I have a 1G block and a 2G head, but no crank triggering system yet. What should I be running w/ this ECU?

It's ran with 100% stock DSM stuff. Pretty much plug in and go.

Interesting, I have been running my Evo I on an 8 ECU for probably about a year now and I have converted four more Evo I-IIIs. What issues was he having?
