I want to stay smog legal, what is the most the HP can the GS 2.0 Non Turbo be tuned to do and still be street legal in California???
And what parts will I need to get the most with out the use of a turbo or Nos???? Serious answeres only Thank You. :)

I have yet to see a n/a 2gnt break the 200 whp mark and none that I know of have seen a 14 in the quarter. I'm talking not even 14.999. The ones that are built up aren't even smog legal. There are a few people out in Cali. that have boosted 420a's. I would search around, get in touch wih those people, and see what they have done. I know you said you didn't want to turbo your car, but trust me when I say that it is only way to make decent power.

Thanx for n4 I would just settle for quick becuse I did not want to add upside down into new car and with only 11,000 left to pay it off nor did not want to give it away either.
200hp or a little less is ok as long as I don't screw up the smog system or output.
Can't wait till I buy me a new Cobalt SS (And I'll buy it out of state!)
I got screwed when I bought this thing in the state of California with it's stupid laws

just a thought, but if you are looking to get a high hp naturally aspirated output, then turbo-ing it really wouldn't make your car n/a anymore; it would be na-t...Also, most mods to a n/t car to make it a little quicker involve a lot of exhaust mods including eliminating the cat, a full exhaust, and full headers...You would have a tough time passing smog with those mods

No No No! Heheheh!!! I am trying to stay N/A see in California we got two test at the time of inspection the visual and the tail pipe if it don't have a California approval sticker or engravement (Also known as CARB) on it then the man will fail your car if he sees the part and you must go and remove the part and or fix the part that is making you fail.
The parts you mentioned are sold with CARB approved stickers just seeking hp numbers.
I'm going to hafta to get the most out of this motor w/o a turbo got too much money into it and almost paid off...(I knew I should not have bought this Japan Dodge Junker!) Thx guy for your help.

You should probably do a little research. You are only limited by your pocketbook.
That's why I come to you guys and I got fairly deep pockets it's just ya can't go deep in the 2.0 and mod it too much becuse it will screw up the smog system.
All the mods I have heard about are on the outside which is good just need some hp numbers so I know what I'm dealing with or just scrap it and get the SS but I'd rather keep it and give it to a future wife and get the Cobalt SS later.
Thx for idea tho.

You owe 11 grand on a '99 GS? Wow...

You can't buy a car from outside of Cali knowing you are going to bring it in state. They'll find some way to penalize you and make life miserable for you.

Yea I bought it from a mitsu dealer almost new w only 25,000 on od back about 3-4 yrs ago and ya know the bank is gonna make an extra buck.
I got Texas ID too hehehe

334 hp from an nA 4 cylinder is so obtainable its not even funny
of cousre you can do it, cost wise its not effective but it could be done, hell id bet you could get 500 hp outa one if you have time and money to figure it out

a motor is a motor is a motor they all have stregths and weakness

look at the allmotor honda guys they have high horsepower na motors (dont gimme that vtec shit either ) its all about doing the research and spending the money and lots of it

Most I've seen so far is 334 by some guy that posts here and on 2gnt.com

Btw, 2gnt.com would probably be a better place to ask about this, not here. ;)

Or... team-2g.com :)

Cobalt SS? Guys on here with 4g63s are smoking those things with their 1st gens. Sure the cobalt may sound badass to be a supercharged car, but look how much more you are spending for that while you can have a cheap first gen or so and outrun one. Is it the style look youre going after or power? If power, I say get a GS-T or GSX :)

Whatever you say...
Yeah maybe with 11 million to one compression...
And magic fairy dust...
And that super fuel from space balls.
If you made it a straight drag run car, hardened the whole block, stupid cams, rods, pistons, port, valves... springs... and ran nitro methane. Maybe.
But that would again be pointless anyway. I wanna see a dyno graph, before I listen to this anythings possible horse shit.

It's the power but so far upside down in my car it's not funny any ideas how to get the most HP from a GS?
I have heard from some you can get from 135 to 162 whp and still be smog legal in Calif. if it's 162hp cool if not I gotta get rid of this thing
I can't seem to find a GST hard top I may as well go for the cheapest and yet the newest to make it worth my while if I'm gonna be in debt to a bank for another 3-5 yrs.
I really wanted to keep the motor I have and just for quick and tweek it for quick .
Also the other route I was gonna take was just borrow the cash and do an engine swap from a GST I know it is about $10,000 but it will at least run fast but it won't be a trustworthy car.
I'm getting depressed dealing with this car still got $11,000 to go that's right $11,000!!!
