Should move to Florida... no emissions here :D
No kinfolk either :) hehehe!!! But file this in the back of your mind other countrys are trying to force the whole U.S. to do so and you know the NWO crowd is mixed up in there somewhere :D
I kinda had the same idea tho but just a little more to the right...Where the stars shine bright...Back home to where the Gods team lives ya kno...Texas!!!
I think after all the money I've spent and you may as well say 30,000, ($3,000 will be a drop in the bucket) I'll just go ahead and do the internal mods and set her up for maximum N/A hp and say to hell with it!

Hay everybody I got on the phone and spoke to a Big Wigg at mitsu and he thought it was best that I built up the bottom end and stayed away from the cams he told me to go in stages and smog test at each step also he like me did not like the way the state of California handles it's smog problem either.
So even tho I'm still a bit mad at all that I have spent in the end it will be somewhat worth it, once I pay my little put-put off :)
I might set it up for NOS too I really don't like the idea of NOS as it might clog up my engine (I also think it's cheat'n  ) so I will haft do more research into this substance before injecting it into my engine.
But in the end I may end up with 170-180 whp w/o NOS...Still Something is better than stock which is far better than nothing at all or trading it in and loosing (as of this date) $18,000+ besides I did learn an important lesson in buying cars
Still trying to decide if my next sports car will be a Nissian 350Z, Chevy Cobalt or the concept AWD 06 Mitsu Eclipse pushing 400whp (If Mitsu produces it)...When I get old and grey I buy me a VET for the hell of it! :)
Thank you everybody wish me luck I keep you updated

Uh, im a previous owner of a 97 Eclipse N/T with every bolt on you can imagine. With Intake/Exhaust/Headers/Pulleys/cam gears/removed backseats/no A/C, etc...i dynoed 142 WHP and also ran a 16.2 in 1/4. Not trying to make matters worst for this thread, but u will not & i mean u will not get anywhere near 334 WHP on a NA 420A motor. Id say about 220-240 WHP will be pushing it.
Hay dude Ya box was full I hope ya come back to this site.

Hay dude it's me I got a few questions did you port and polish that 97 non turbo you had?

Did you do anything to the ecm add a piggy back or tweek?

Sounds like ya did'nt add any cams did or any internal work at all am I correct.

Did you add an High Flow Fule Pump in the tank?

Also if I read right sounds like you dynoed w/o Nos.

Still think'n about the Cobalt SS I got the dealer on the run :D
I been reading good reviews about it so far :)

Thx!

It is sad, but the honda guys make big power because of the vtec. Variable valve timing does add a lot of power.

I call bs here... when I had my civic, I hung around with alot of SOHC NON-VTEC civic owners, half of them had close to 200 hp WITHOUT vtec (yeah high-comp pistons and such but still). VTEC gains aprox. 17 hp **MAX**. We did a vtec conversion (dx-ex) on my buddies civic a few years back, it was nice, but it wasnt all-encompassing.

I nice set of cams, maybe bore it out .002, oversize the pistons, bigger intake/exhaust valves, bigger/better intake/header/exhaust, highflow cat, bigger throttlebody (and bypass the coolant line). and he'll be on his way to 200 hp in ANY 4cyl that runs good (well ok except the older ones that make like 45 hp).

s2ks are rwd so they have higher d/t loss, and they are 2.0s so it can be done with a 2.0 fwd.
ANOTHER THING people arent mentioning about 2ks.... they have aprox 280 hp with their 2.0L VTEC F20C inline 4.... they also have a close ratio 6 spd tranny and gobs of torque (dont remember the numbers).

Why not pay off the emissions people thats what we do here in STL, trust me they have there price, i mean so kid or guy making next to nothing contrcated by the state to test your car for hydrocarbons will totally take a bribe
Yeah but the pigs who pull you over and tell you to pop the hood wont.

And what about those smog nazi's that park on the on/off ramps with their smogchecking vans... they're starting to do that out here in CO also...

And if I find out ((my)) 420a cannot be tuned up approximatly 50% extra hp I'll get rid of it without hesitation and start over with better car no shame no game and I'll never ever buy a another mitsu!!!
Yo... chill bashing on mitsu.

Mitsubishi didnt MAKE you buy a 420a you COULD HAVE save a few more pennies and bought a 4g63t.

As for me I *CHOSE* a 93 gs because I wanted that specific car. I will be swapping in a gsx/t motor and trans someday, but I knew what I was getting into BEFORE I bought the car because I did research on it.

I knew when I bought the car that it barely made a stock gross of APROX 130 bhp, but who cares! I CHOSE THE CAR!

Ummm I did not know about the engines big guy...But they coulda made the 420a much better even if it added a few dollers to the tag it would have been worth more to their rep than anything and don't think they had no clue about the guys who tuned them up in the 1st gen by the 2nd gen they coulda had all the bugs out and made out like bandits but profits in Japan are more important than customer satisfaction it seems

I would tend to agree, but on the same notion, its the same reason the GS was made (well at least the 4g63 one). Some people dont WANT awd or turbo or 200 hp, they just want a retarted point a to point b car that just ran and didnt cost too much. I personally dont understad that concept, but hey, who am I to judge eh?

The reason I chose the GS is for bragging rights and to have the experience of doing the swap (as well as basically having a sleeper).

Love to be able to say "You got your v8 punk ass handed to ya by a fucking GS! NOW WHO'S TALKING SHIT BITCH?!"
... :D :D :D

I hear ya :) looks like I may end up inside the motor after all  I'm gonna just go ahead and gut the whole thing looks like a ball park of $4,000 bottom end stroke kit (no over bore) bolt ons and port and polish that will be all the work I do to it.
Can't find a GS-T and well I got 18,000 wrapped up in this car just in payments alone and so $4,000 is just a drop in the bucket but at least it will be paid off in 18 months and it looks like I'll be doing 200-210hp at least it's stock GS-T hp if nothing else just gotta make lemonade out of lemons I guess :)

I would spend some time on the research of a CARB turbo kit... I seem to remember one for my civic (before i got rid of it) but I couldnt afford it.. was like $2.3k and gave 6-14 psi ... not much, but would give you a nice boost...

Id also agree on some laughing gas.... hide the bottle under your back seat or in the spare tire area and put carpet on it or whatever.... have a bottle openner and put the N2O injectors on the BOTTOM of the intake manifold so they're not noticeable to the smog nazis... just whatever you do ... keep the carb stickers in a folder or envelope in the glove box... you never know when you just might need them

Yep I checked called all the Turbo mkaers in the Country and no makes em becuse the 420a is a dirty motor Greddy said they struggled with it for years trying to get it to boost and boost clean so they could get a CARB approval then just finaly said to hell with it it won't boost clean, so I'll just hafta settle for N/A.
It's ok though at least I got a cheap knock off of a real sports car :)

you didn't check hard enough. Hahn Racecraft makes a turbo kit for our cars and so does Star.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/parts/default.php?cPath=86_91

but...i would personally make a custom turbo kit for less than $1000 and know what i'm doing.

Hahn and star are not carb legal I called em both up trust me I went to the California CARB site they don't have one no one makes one.
Hahn said it cost tooo much Star said it was tooo much trouble like Greddy said.
It's cool I got hope I talked to a guy who has a shop he says 180 to the fly another guy says 180 to the wheels so hay I may be down but I'm not out! :)

heer heer!

regardless of which way you go, you're thinking the right way, you may not set any land-speed records, but you'll have some fun with the car and it wont seem so slow anymore... good luck bro, the streets and track both need more people like you.
