Hey guys, I saw this car today

http://hamilton.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-1995-Eagle-Talon-Tsi-AWD-W0QQAdIdZ199621849

(I went and saw the paprika red one that I posted earlier and it wasn't nearly as nice as it looked in the ad)

Anyway this car seems excellent for the price, it runs extremely well and the only major rust is on the strut towers and some surface rust underneath which i will have fixed, the paint is fading and the door on the passenger side is slightly warped in by the fender as he grazed against another car in a fender bender. Im confused though because he has a performance built transmission in it with a welded center differential and he says that this makes the tires hop in turns sometimes, he has a spare stock center diff with the car. Can someone explain the difference to me and is the welded center diff a big deal? Other than that the car idles excellent, it has a big 16g turbo and a 1g intercooler (which is apparently better) the engine bay is clean and the underside of the car is also great, please give me your opinions, thanks.

A welded diff is not fun for a dd. People have driven on welded diff and not complained but I wouldnt be able to do it. Also, I would ask for receipts on the built trans for proof. Who built it?

Contradicting?

Are you having someone professionally take care of the shock towers? It's not as easy as sanding them down and re painting them.

Sorry for making so many threads, I'll keep that in mind.

Yes the transmission was done by Team Rip Engineering, I checked them out and they seem to be pretty legitimate.

If I had the shock towers professionally done any idea of how much it would cost?

And about the rust, there is some surface rust underneath but by my standards I would still say that the underside is in very good condition.

Also, what makes daily driving with a welded diff difficult? How difficult is it to swap the center diff out for the stock one?

I've seen that car for sale on the local Club DSM site.
not a bad deal but a horrible color.

Shock tower rust repair will cost you anywhere between $500-$1000 depending how bad it is. I paid $500 for mine, repaired by a local DSMer.

The center welded diff won't allow the tires to turn at different speeds of each other. In a turn an open diff or LSD allows the inside tire (or tires) to turn slower the the outside. A welded diff means both tires are locked together. So the tires can make noise in a turn or hope around.

I would contact Eric and explain your situation, he might work out a deal with you for the $4k and allow you to make payments for a couple months, it never hurts to ask.
he should be able to keep the title in his name while you register the car in yours, but not sure how that is accomplished.
