My car handles excellent in the winter! She keeps my driveway from floating away. I could never take my baby out in the snow, I won't even drive her in the rain. You guys are nuts!
I hear ya man. I try to keep mine out of the rain ( been stuck a couple times ) and it never sees snow.

Now that I think about it, I don't think it's the tires being the issue. I have always had toyo proxes 4 tires on this car since the day I got it.

Proxes are summer tires no?

Last winter I drove my Talon, had some Yokohoma all seasons and she did pretty well. I went through some deep snow once and my battery and brake light came on, I thought fuck there goes my alt again.
A nice long belt squeal later and the car was fine again.

All season doesnt mean they will do well at low temps like winter tires. The rubber gets hard on all seasons in the cold. Also, just because it is M&S rated doesnt mean its good for the snow. The rating is only based on the amount of free tread space on the tire. So if there is alot of tread grooves it can be M&S and not be a good design for snow and not have many if any little cuts to improve traction like studless snow tires have.

So basically what you are saying is that dedicated winter/snow tires are better then all season tires when it comes to traction in heavy snow. I know that and already said as much. Summer tires, like the Evo's OEM tires, don't have M&S ratings and would be a death wish in heavy winter conditions.

I was just saying that the proxes, although they may be m&s rated all seasons, might still be the reason for his bad traction. Just because they are all season m&s doesnt mean they are an optimal design for snow. TONS of all seasons are m&s but they all have different designs, and some are better than others. The m&s rating isnt based on the design but the amount of free space in the tread. Its a %. I almost guarantee its the proxes causing the problems, I would go winter tires in the skinniest size possible(205/55 prolly), and see if it gets better, which it should. I had that setup for 3 years and my dsm was a beast in the snow.

All I have been saying from the jump is that people have been telling him his Proxes suck because they are summer tires which is incorrect, the specific model, Proxes 4's are all-seasons and will do a better job of handling snow then actual summer tires would. I never said they would be OPTIMAL for snow.

Try taking that truck around a 90 degree corner in 20" of snow at 70 mph sideways... :p

Or from 0-60 in less than 10 minutes. I've passed trucks that couldn't get out of the snow in my AWD DSM before. Trucks sliding sideways sitting still, unable to get any traction even with 4WD, and a ton of other shit. I hate driving a truck in any kind of snow. I hate driving a truck period. Give me my DSM anyday.
