Re: Look what I'm doing!!

I wish I would have gotten a better up close look at this car while @ the shootout. Oh well next year!
Do you have the p/n's or a link for the 90* fittings that you used on the valve cover? I see that the one end looks to be AN
Oh well! They are Fragola bulkhead fittings.

Here is the part number: 483310-BL

I showed in red where I had cut it.

Looks like someone already got to your request.

Nice work throughout the thread. Except for the custom Powerade coolant overflow bottle. ;)
I have some plans for a custom bottle but I would like to make it myself and possible put them up for sale, gatorade bottle works fine for now. Car is put away for the winter as of late October.

Focusing now on the little details of the car. All my big parts are purchased and installed and now it is just time to enjoy the car. Recaros are still on the wish list but school is draining the bank account..

Well, not much has happened the last year. This is my final semester at Iowa State and will be graduating come December.

New wheels and tires are about it.

Wheels are 18x9.5 +34 Vordovens. Excuse me for the reps but broke college student = reps.

I did go top notch with the tires though. 255/35 Potenza re760's.

Will post more random stuff after class.

Peace

Disregard my last post ^^If a mod reads this could you delete it? I'm trying to keep all my build threads up to date at the same time.

Alright, so not much has happened in the last year, I'm super broke while in my last year of college.

After attending the shootout and MOD in 2014 I put the car away for the winter in my buddies new garage. Huge shoutout to Griff, I have kept my car in one of his garages every winter since highschool. This is his biggest and nicest garage to date, heated floors, full kitchen, lift, perfectly level floors, nice drains, wash bay, the whole 9 yards.

When spring time rolled around I took my car out of storage and brought it to Ames Iowa while I took classes. I was pretty broke this last year so I didn't do much. Over the summer I had noticed that my tires were on their last leg so new tires were on my radar. I also had begun to feel that if i were going to pay top dollar for some new tires, I was going to get a wheel that was the proper size so I was on the hunt for some new dubs..

I chose to go with Vordoven wheels in a 18 x 9.5 size and 255 Bridgestone Potenza re760's.

While I was waiting for my tires and wheels to show up, I decided I was going to have a go at fixing my pesky oil leak. After about three complete tear downs of the timing side, I had found that the castle plug was finger tight...

Got the wheels and tires mounted, I am super happy to be able to not have to run a spacer and have a great fitment.

Thats about it. I graduate next month and will probably be moving.. I'm really not sure what the fate of my eclipse will be. I may part it out I may just leave it in storage for a while. I just know I will have to get a new car when I get a new job so who knows...

Peace.

Beautiful! Personally, Im not crazy about the offset on the wheels but I wouldn't get out of that car that's for sure.

I want to go over two little projects I did with the GSX that I think some of you will like and appreciate.

The first problem I always had with my 99 was the bumper had horrible fitment, not the oem perfect that I wanted. I noticed it had no support basically except for the corner bolts by the wheels and this caused the areas under the headlights to sag. I also wanted to address this issue because with the whole bumper being hung by two bolts on the very corners, I was worried the bumper would possibly tear or be damaged beyond repair.

Notice the sagging and horrible fitment.

I figured I wanted something to push the area under the light up so the pumper theoretically could sit there and look fully attached but just "pressed" into place, without bolting the corner bolts in.

Here is what I came up with.

Untitled by Brady Dingeldein, on Flickr

Just threaded rod and fuel line for the rubber black part. The rod actually presses the lip of the bumper against the bottom of the headlights.

Here is an after shot of the passenger side. This has gotten tremendously better after a few months to let the bumper take shape. Its much better than it looks in this pic now.

The next project was to tackle my fu*ked up trunk panel/carpet.

I knew this area of my car was lacking and it was always pissing me off whenever I went back there to get something out of so I went home one weekend and tackled the project.

So my oringal was cracked in the middle because I had no support (spare tire) to hold it up, and it had more stains than a frat house so I found some almost identical wood at the local hardware store and got right into tracing out the old material to make a new one.

Then I drilled the old rivets out of the hinges and re-riveted them on my new wood panel.

Wow look at that!

Then I traced out the carpet pattern on some heavier duty automotive black carpet. I went with black because I would maybe want to dye the plastics black with some SEM dye someday, and I have black carpet in the cabin so why not.

Then as some of you know, the original carpet has this weird material that I forgot the name of, attached to the underneath for more cushion/sound deadening, so I added that to the carpet with 3M adhesive spray.

In order to prevent the wood from caving in, and giving it some better support, I rigged up this aluminum bracket to hold the center of the panel. Works great and looks just as I wanted it to.

Here is the piece ready to go in, with string and all.

Was just missing one minor detail..... :)

There! Finally.

Oh and about the little "T" hooks to mount the bottom of the cargo net to, I opted to not put these in because previously they became squished whenever I put heavy objects back there, I wanted to keep the trunk cover completely flat with no obstructions. I may put them in though when I stop putting stuff in the trunk.. Who knows!

Thanks for looking!

Okay..

I got bored thanksgiving and really wanted to give my engine harness a one-over. I had previously already removed a TON of shit from it, but I didn't really route it before I wrapped and tapped it up so there was tons of leftovers and plugs stretching from far way to make it. So I wanted to change all that.

First step remove harness. Before removing it a had the car running, then turned it off, then taped every connector that wasn't plugged in so I would know that those were not needed. This was my way of being 100% sure they were uneccessary. Majority of them were trans plugs from the auto and some random stuff on the firewall that wast left in the harness from the first tuck.

Untitled by Brady Dingeldein, on Flickr

Next, was to completely strip the harness of all electrical tape and loom. This way I could plull all the individual plugs back to the firewall and route them where I wanted to.

Once all the connectors were separated all the way back to the firewall, I installed the harness back into the car to route them and check everything worked fine. Now, I left out a lot of small details as to how to get all the plugs separated. From the factory a lot of the plugs are tangled, and routed up and down the harness multiple times to random grounding spots. I separated it all. Made all grounds go to one terminal, and put the transistor near the ECU so it wasn't behind my IM. This is all very tedious shit, but take your time and do one wire at a time and you will be fine.

With the harness installed back in the car, I could then route things where I wanted, keeping bundles together as far as I could.

Untitled by Brady Dingeldein, on Flickr

This picture shows some of them laid out. What I did was route everything where I wanted, then just made loops with the harness for that plug so i would know how much could be removed.

Untitled by Brady Dingeldein, on Flickr

Heres just a random pic, it really shows how little shit is in the bay haha. And yes, stuff will be getting powdercoated and painted again, small oil leaks and being at college with no tools messed my beautiful bay up.

Untitled by Brady Dingeldein, on Flickr

After marking how much of each strand could be removed I took the harness back out and got to work. This is my finished product. You can see the transistor right on the other side of the firewall grommet.

Untitled by Brady Dingeldein, on Flickr

Now, I would really like to get some ray-chem loom and all that nice jazz but I am honest to god the worst at de-pinning these connectors. I might just wrap it in some 3m and some nice loom and be done with it but who knows. Anyway, I don't have any pics of it installed but I tell you what, it is hard to find a wire in there lol.

I just graduated with my Bachelors in Mechanical engineering so stay tuned for great things to come on the GSX now that I am not relying on money from donating plasma to buy parts LOL.

Heres a little sneak peak at what I have in mind.

Peace.
