it just broke the fuck off... how can i fix this? i already have an appt at the dealer for warranty work to replace my valve cover and now i guess ill tell them to replace it... i mean it just came off!
I guess we can add mine to the list..
grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
really, just like everyone else on here, I was mindin my bidness opening the door and :snap:
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
the trick i've been trying to bypass the broken door handle problem (after replacing the drivers side myself -.- ) is to pull up the handle only until the door unlatches, then pull the weight of the door by the side along the seam. Those DSM doors are friggin heavy and its obvious this cheap plastic cant lift it over and over again over time. Its worked so far...
Now the real question is --- does someone want to fabricate some metal handles to go in the stock door handle assembly? If you took out the remaining broken plastic handle you could hold in a new meatal handle with cotter pins or bolts or something-- someone please! You'll make a mint off of us! _-_,
Well just a week ago i broke off my passenger handle . That's the one that I fixed b4 .
I sead to my self " I'm going to a junk yard and getting one "
Well after swearing up a storm trying to put the junkyard handle in , i swore to my self that i need to make my self a my own design custom handle .
I was thinking using carbon fiber , but i really don't have time for that . And probably it would take me a good amount of try's to work out the problems.
Now for a metal handle replacement . I might see what i can do . I just learned how to weld , so I might make couple .
if ANYONE makes a metal or CF handle..i'll pay for it.. i dont care how much it is! stupid mitsubishi door handles are pos and i've already had 2 broken ones in the year i've owned my car.
Yeah mine broke today WTF come on Mitshubishi get it right. I'm here in Germany and no dealers wanna fuck with it so I guess i wait or find one online.
Also anyone else have this problem in the summer I had some black gooey shit come from my door panels onto my footboards I took door apart to paint interior and really didnt see it I mean this shit ruined my footboards gonna have to scrap for days
But besides that gotta love my 99 eclipse CAI,Bomz cat back, NGK irridiums and wires, AFC
Mine broke yesterday, at a gas station....... eBay sells em for $65+ plus shipping... I should go steal an avenger and scrap it, for the driver side handle o_0
I went into my local grocery store and when I came out my drivers door handle was broke and laying on the ground. I feel pretty ghetto getting in my car at school though the passenger side. Anyway I guess I better trie to fix it!!!
LOL i got in from the passenger side for nearly an entire school year. Got tired of dealing with it so i shaved the handles... I couldn't figure out a good way to hook up the handle still so now i have to press the button when i'm inside to pop the door lol.
No way I'm way too vain to sit in my passenger seat, open the door, get out, walk around, get in, and look like an idiot... SIGH. Did anyone figure out how to get strengthened door handles? I just pop it open w/ the handle, then pull the glass to open it - I'm scurred :-D.
We definately need redesigned door handles... I've almost not been able to open my doors at all a few times because of freezing rain and/or snow... I don't like having to gently bently open the door with that much care just to not break the handle. They work great normally, but too flimsy for the cold weather stuff.
You know, there's seemingly hundreds of shops that make everything from lip spoilers to stroker engines for our cars. You think one of them would cash in on the mod that every DSMer would buy two of: stong doorhandles.
I'm working on a fix that has shown good progress so far. I'm in touch with some metal fab. houses in Phoenix to get estimates on a parts run. Right now it requires the careful use of a bandsaw to install the parts but I have been trying it with a hacksaw to see if that is possible too. The goal is to make a reinforcement kit that can be installed by anyone capable of removing the door handles. The fix won't make the door handle bulletproof but it should go a long way towards ending the failures that occur from normal use. Taking the handles out and putting them back may in fact be the hard part. I have some more left handles on the way for destuctive testing. Does anyone have a complete but busted passenger side handle they could send me? I just need one for now. Post here if so.
Please look at the photo. Has anyone had a failure other than in the areas indicated?
My passenger handle has been broken for a month and two days ago my drivers side handle came completely off. I have no intention of climbing in my hatch.
I called a buddy of mine who has a parts car and he told me to e-mail AZDave because he came up with a fix for the 2G handle problem.
.I just picked up one of AZDave's door handle fix kits and I am surprized no one has done this yet! Here are a couple of links one to his instructions on how to install the kit and the other is a pic of Dave holding a 100 lbs of cement up by a 2G DSM handle!!! NO ONE has a decent kit for DSM handles besides him.
Here's the deal.... I don't need a new door handle but I've installed about 50 of them when I wored for mitsu.... If anyone in the florida area needs to have thiers replaced and has the part, I'll install it for free, if you help take photos of the process and possibly aid me in writing up a vfaq on it (assuming it's not already done)... It's truely not that hard once you know what you're doing, you just need the right tools and little fingers.
Like I said my offer stands, I'll install the part for free if you give me a hand with the vfaq. (I've never made a VFAQ before). I'm hoping I can finally do something to help out the community...
