350 Engine in a Talon

I would like you guys experience with something.

Just today, I was offered a 350 engine, transmission, etc. to me for free.

My initial thought was: What am I going to do with a 350 engine when I have a 97 talon?!

You see where I am going with this right?

Have any of you guys here ever heard of a dsm with a 350 engine in it?

I don't really want to know what would need to be done to have one in my talon. (if you want to comment on it though, you're more than welcome to.)

I would like to know though if ANYONE has ever heard of such a thing in any DSM.

Thanx in advance for your knowledge!

There was one example a long time ago of an LT1 engine stuffed into a 1G, the guy put the car up for sale before he could finish the project and the car was never heard from again.

If you're trying this on a fwd chasis, forget about it. The only setup that would probably work would be a Northstar engine and trans.

If you have an AWD chasis, you'll have to do some notching and bracketing to the crossmembers get the transmission to fit where the transfer case normally sits. Fabricated brackets for the engine and transmission. New rear end, unless you trust an IRS rear end to withstand the torque should you decide the carb, header, and cams aren't enough.

My advice: Take the 350 engine and trans (it is in proper working order, and you did check the VIN's on both to make sure they're not stolen, right?), keep it in your garage and hunt for a good rust free GM vehicle to put them in. Personally, I've always had a thing for those late '70's early 80's Malibu wagons. Nothing like a sleeper G-body wagon.

I agree, sell it, and put the money into your 4g63. I have heard of at least 3 4g63 engines out there making 1000 hp plus or minus a few hp. and they are on Mitsu blocks, cranks and heads. Tweaked yes but not aftermarket castings/forgings. No Chevy will do that.

So, why frig around? you want power, work the little 2 liter.

miata's are rwd, i didnt even look at the link though. ive heard alot of people throwing 350's in miata's.

one of my dream projects would be a 350 in a 280z

i dont think it would be worth it to put it in a dsm though, just to much money for something that isnt going to be that fast.

I was going to say that, Miatas are rwd, and I too have seen them in person.

Thing is, a Miata can benefit from an engine swap. In a DSM, there is no point, the only other engines that are even on par are the 1jz/2gz, rb26dett and MAYBE something from Porsche or BMW. But those swaps won't really net you anything besides a damn big hole in your pocket. A 4g63 can make all the power a street car (and for that matter most race cars) will ever need.

get an rx7 with a dead rotary motor (easy to find ~$3-800) then go to www.grannysspeedshop.com and do the damn thing!!! have fun running low 12's-11's right after the swap!

This is my plan for my next project after i get my dsm to break 11's
Sure an FD with an LS1 would be sick, but I have a buddy that put a GN motor in an RX-7, 11.35 on the stock motor!
Take a look Newbs!

Alll i can say is I know of 3 3000GT/Stealths with a V8 in them and RWD. I know that one is just a shell of a car but the other two are alive and kicking.

http://www.morgansmotorsports.com/MOV01133.MPG

thats a Chrysler 440 and a Torque Flight 727 Tranny i believe (on the tranny not definate but the engine i know)....the name of the car is VR440.

I bet that a car with an inline-4 cyl engine transverse mounted, can be converted into a V8 but you need to do some serious work. modify the fire wall. THe VR440, this dude built a tubular front frame. the front of the car up to the firewall was taken off.
He then made a tubular body and just stuck the panels on that.
