FWIW- Last week Nick Sutton was timed in his '91 Talon TSi G/Production Sedan 213.193MPH on the Bonneville Salt Flats!

[Car still wasn't nearly topped out, but the boost ruptured a silicone elbow.]

Going back for World Finals in a couple weeks with hard pipe in place of the silicone to go after the Cochran's 215 MPH DSM & Land Speed World Production Sedan record.

Way to go Nick!!

H5-0: I don't know the specific gearing, but the engine was probably turning somewhere between 7,000-7,500rpm. The redline is probably somewhere between 8,500-9,000rpm (Nick, like most racers, isn't real specific when answering these kinds of questions).

Nick still had another mile of track to run when the coupler blew, so it wasn't even close to being maxed out at 213!!

Wow, that's sick! The car looks like it sits pretty high though....how stable is it at speed? I know the 1G is pretty slippery right out of the box. Are there plans for more aero, or is that not allowed in your specific class? Either way, the car looks wild and I'm sure he'll break the 215 mark. Good luck!

Might be time to go to V-Band for the pipe connections.

been gone a week, lots of good questions all...this AWD car was parted-out & ready to be crushed when Nick rescued it. Nick started with a rolling chassis, cut the roof off, welded the cage in, then re-welded the roof on. Its now a FWD 5-spd. 6-bolt 2.0l 4G63, still has lots of stock and junkyard engine parts incl. intake manifold & throttle body, formerly developed a lot of lift at high speed that was cured by lots of ballast, and it can't be lowered due to both the tire diameter and the no-lowering class rules that also require all stock exterior body parts (except wipers and mirrors), stock dash, and door panels.

We're heading back to Bonneville this week for World Finals(weather-permitting) so I'll take some more pics and post them soon.

Was it GPS confirmed? Either way, I bet that car could barely do 135 mph on the Salt Flats. It is a crap ton harder to get up to speed on the salt flats than it is on the street, because your essentially ice skating the whole way. Even at speed, your still spinning. Salt is loose, tarmac is firm.
