Hey Everybody,

I was wondering does anybody know the exact size of a replacement 1st gen battery, Like the actual inches(lxwxh) I think i heard it is like a group 24 i think. The reson i ask is because i am into car audio alot and i want to get a everstart maxx from walmart with 900 cca's, i think it will fit but i don't know for sure. I would check for myself but i don't have my car with me right now. Also if you are wondering why i just won't move the battery to the back I don't have the funds to do it properly now. By the way the batery is going in a 1991 Eclipse GSX,thanks

watch the clearance at the top!

When installing bigger batteries in a 1G, you can remove the plastic battery box to get more room.

But be very careful of the top positive terminal -- depending on the battery terminal you use, it might hit the hood and short out.

Batteries must also be firmly bolted down. If you can't use the stock bracket, make a new one.

Also be careful of the battery hold down screw on the fender side of the bracket --it strips very easily.

Exide Orbital fits in 1Gs and has better specs than Optima red-top. The yellow-top has less cranking amps but can withstand deeper discharges with minimal damage.

Cheers,
Mark

I never had mine firmly bolted down under the hood. Where is it gonna go? It's an Optima which can take over 18 times the vibration load of a regular lead acid battery and it cannot spill period because it's sealed. Doesn't matter for me anymore anyway because I now have an Optima D31T in the back and no battery in the front at all.
