Didnt really know where to put this thread.

Been contemplating a rear end conversion of some type, im building a car strictly for drag racing and will be trailered to and from the track. The car currently has a 3 bolt rear end in the car and I have it pulled and been thinking of possibly converting to some type of ford or chevy rear end, possibly a dana type, havent really decided yet. I figure that a 4 bolt could be had for around $400 plus the $1600 or so to have the DSS level 5 axles put on, I could possibly switch in a much more heavy duty rear end for that much money that could possibly handle more power, BTW this is going to stay AWD. I know the most difficult part would be fabbing up a rear supsension that could be used for this but it may possibly be worth it if I could find some good deals and do the fabrication myself.

So does anyone know of anybody whose done this or possibly have some pictures, just trying to see what all this would entail. Thanks in advance.

If your going to go through the trouble of getting a rear-end like for a straight drag car that you might as well ditch the awd and go RWD with a straight mounted engine. RWD > AWD for straight drag racing.

that would require a lot more work than just 4-linking the car, doing a RWD setup in a T/L/E is not the easiest thing to do, if you were to go RWD you would be better off starting with another car (think conquest,might max,2g rx7). Like I said on that "other site," your going to need to just research how to 4-link a car, its pretty universal and people do it to unibody cars all the time, they even sell kits that include mounting brackets and the suspension arms. However it is going to take a lot of fab work, so I hope you have a Tig machine and a straight level. then after that you get to decide which solid rear axle you want to use and the best final gear ratio for your application.

If you do keep it AWD and use a solid rear axle you would have to make sure you get it geared perfectly to match the front so you dont ttrash the transfercase.
