my car is leaking oil... every morning when i move the car i see little drips on the driveway... i alrdy changed the valve cover gasket seals... when i took it to the mechanic they told me it was the head gasket causing the leaks...i dont have oil in my coolant or any unusal things happening... they did a leak down test 2 months ago and it was 180 all across..... he quoted me over a grand to fix it....

I doubt it's your rear main seal. Do a simple compression test, to see if it's your headgasket. You can have a shop do it, or buy a $20.00 tester and do it yourself. Things may have changed since then. . .

Just clean off your engine really good, start it up, and watch for leaks. A UV detection kit may help as well. Also, it could be powersteering fluid, or transmission fluid, but they will smell and look different than engine oil.

Compression test wont necessarily show you if your HG is blown. The only accurate test to determine that is a leakdown test.

Again, its VERY unlikely that a blown headgasket is going to be leaking fluid outside of the combustion chamber. Its unlikely the HG will be blown bad enough for that to happen while the engine is capable of running.

Mystery oil leaks on NA cars usually stem from valve cover gasket or rear main seal. I guess it could also be the cam angle sensor gasket that is leaking as well. Also Ive even see faulty oil filters or mating surfaces on the engine for the oil filter not smooth and oil was leaking from there.

Good luck finding it. Hope this helps.

But the other advice about washing the engine off and using a uv detection is a good way to go. That will tell you for sure.

Mine did. It ran fine (except for the oil leak) for almost 40000 miles before I got fluids mixing. Then I changed it.

Clean everything up with engine degreaser and keep a close eye on the engine to see where the oil is originating from.
I second this. Then you'll know for sure exactly where it's coming from.

Clean off the engine, get some dye and add it to your oil . Drive the motor around - bring it back in and trace the dye with a black light and find your source of leaks. It's NOT your HG, don't take your car to those :tat:"mechanics" again.

Well Naked Guy, I didnt say it was impossible, I just said unlikely. But thx for chiming in with your experience as well, helps him cover it from all angles.

Hope you figure it out though man. And when you do please be sure to post back and let us all know what it was and so the information contained in the thread can be archived by the search index for other people to gain from as well.
