I installed a ported big 16g the other day. I tried brake torqueing quickly to see how much boost I could buiild off the line, and i bogged. Anyone have any suggestions, should I brake torque longer?

You should be able to brake torque to 15psi + on the stock torque convertor. You may want to check out for boost leaks. After I installed my big16g I could only build 5 psi at the line and couldnt even spin my tires on the launch no matter how hard I tried.

Some cars will be fine with the stock t/c and a big 16g, and others will need a high stall. Ever car is different. I know for my car, most of the time I couldn't build boost at the line with just the big 28. Ever seen an AWD dsm pull a 2.9 sec 60' time? I've done it before:(

Well with the 14b i was able to get it to about 15 psi the one time i tried, but i have had lots of probs with my car lately, (not boost or tranny related). It took me a few seconds to even get it there tho but it did. Now on the t25....well....since i toasted that thing (on purpose) bc i watned to swap, i could build boost up to 20 psi and launch easy. but then again it was a t25 so shit it should be able to build to 20 on a brk trq. anyway just dropin in my 2 cents

AVC-R

I'm convinced my AVC-R is messing with the turbo too. I'm going to sell it, but the other night, I was messing with it and all of a sudden, I'm able to build 5 psi off the line, and I hit full spool at 3400 instead of at almost 4000.

Is changing the torque converter a huge job? And can I leave my tranny stock, and just change the clutches and add a shift kit, and tranny cooler?
Yes its a big job. About the same amount of work as a new clutch in a m/t dsm. Add in the end clutches, shift kit(wich is also alot of work), good fluid, and a trans cooler and you will be set. I just put in a new filter/ B&M synthetic trick shift, and it made a difference in my car. I'm still trying to get end clutches from charles, and will proably get a shift kit some time over the winter.

I also have the same problem as you. I'm hitting full boost at about 3,900 to 4,000! What did you do to the AVCR to make it spool faster?

I was flying throught the streets of Elizabeth as fast as I could while my buddy sitting next to me was doing the tuning. I couldn't tell you exactly what he was touching, but I'm getting rid of the AVC-R and putting a manual boost control in. Even though I'm FWD and having one boost setting might suck at launch (dual stage means more things can go wrong!), right now I can't build much boost off the line anyway, so it doesn't matter. Plus I talked to a few local NJDSM shops, and they all gave me the same response, "We don't like the AVC-R, and it's not efficient to use with DSMs"
