Hi people,

My doubt is regarding the thermo fan switch sensor location at the radiator box of a 1993 Eclipse. I know it should go below the radiator fan somewhere but my radiator box is not the oem anymore. The previous owner replaced the original plastic radiator with a larger model made of metal, but I don’t know if he installed the fan switch sensor back on it or if he just removed it and installed an upper hose termo switch (it’s a sensor which has a “T” shape that goes in the middle of the upper radiator hose – this one turns on the fan in my car today). How does the oem sensor/wires look like down there?

My doubt is... if he did remove the sensor/wires because the new radiator box have no spot to connect the original sensor, can I adapt the oem sensor (or any other) back in this metal box? Is that possible?

My only motivation to return the oem sensor back in this car is because the “T” sensor at the upper radiator hose is VERY UGLY and it may concern people who could potentially buy this car in the future. I want it to look as much oem as possible.

Thanks

There should be a threaded bung next to the fitting for the lower radiator hose where the sensor is supposed to be installed, on an aftermarket radiator it's usually plugged. The previous owner may have decided to go a different route in order to use a different sensor (i.e. using a different thread) or because the bung is not there. If you look down there it should be pretty obvious.

In any case if the radiator was designed for a DSM it should come already with the bung. Most likely the previous owner (or his mechanic) rigged up something to use a standard switch he already had laying around. I would make sure the electrical connector has not been tampered with as well. Can you show us a pic?
