Draining/refilling clutch fluid

Ok...help. I have a Haynes manual, but I just want to make sure I'm correct on a few things.

1- the clutch fluid resevoir: it's the one near the firewall, closer to the drivers side, and it's a bit of a zig-zag shape, correct?

2- if it is (quite sure it is), when I look inside I have all sorts of debris in there. It looks like super-fine grit sand, and the fluid looks kinda cloudy. Does this warrant completely draining/refilling it?

3- If it does, does it just take Dot 3 brake fluid? And where do you drain it from?

4- Finally, any idea how much fluid it takes?

Edit: And no, I'm not talking about bleeding my clutch. If debris's in there, I want it fully drained.

There's a clamp that holds down the reservoir bottle to the clutch master cylinder. Take it out and pry off the reservoir bottle very carefully;Ttat way you can clean it out completely. After that you can add new fluid to the reservoir.;) In order to clean the lines from the fluid, you should take out the bleeding screw at the slave cylinder and pump out the clutch pedal until the lines stop spitting fluid.

I cleaned and flushed it by getting a large bottle of Dot 3 or 4 brake fluid. I opened the bleeder and pumped it dry. Then I used Q tips to clean out the clutch fluid container. Then I started filling the system again and letting the new stuff come out so that it was totally clean. Then I just refilled it and bled it.

On that old a car, it'll have all kinds of crud in it. You may wind up needing a new master or slave or both, but perhaps not. Wiping it out well will surely help, make sure to work _away_ from the orifice in the bottom. And keep the fluid well away from paint.
